Do you know of any famous or wealthy people who wear moissanite rings?

rosecut:  Miss America 2010 rocks an amora gem :-). Radiant cut moissy is cut differently from radiant diamonds, so it may not “pass” as a diamond. However, maybe she will fall in love with moissanite for what it is. I tell you, I sure did. My moissanite rings get more attention than any other, my bank teller went on and on about it the other day. It is am amazing stone and a wonderful option for a very sparkly, impressive piece.

rosecut:  I don’t know any wealthy women with moissys, but I know several VERY wealthy (mid-50’s, early 60’s) women who rock CZ’s. The only reason I know is because when I complimented them on their rings, they told me they were CZ. I imagine they have expensive jewels tucked away, but one explained she’d rather travel and buy expensive cars than upgrade to something bigger at her age/stage in life. Go figure

I don’t know of any. Maybe some do and just don’t feel the need to announce it to the public? Miss America doesn’t = a wealthy/famous person to me. I know stores here in NYC in the diamond district advertise that they have them but they aren’t the nicer stores.

3.5 carats seems huge to me and I would automatically assume it’s fake unless other things look like a person would/could spend on it. Also, all moissy owners are going to tell you it’s a stone in its own right so therefore it isn’t “fake.”

Gwen Stefani, Madonna, Sharon Osborne, and Joan Collins (and a few more I don’t remember) were all featured in news story a while back about wearing simulated diamonds. A few for ethical reasons and a few for safety reasons.

Alexis on Real Housewives of Orange County admitted to wearing CZ.  Personally in case the color difference bothered her I would try to show her the Amora Gem.  Right now it’s only available in round, but hopefully they will bring out fancy shapes too.

rosecut:  Amora Gem and moissiante are different.  Both are apart of the silcon carbide family, but Amora Gem are whiter than moissy with no hints of green or yellow and they can achieve a much higher color, all the way up to E.  You may be thinking of amora moissiante which was an enchancement for moissy.  Both were made by Better than Diamonds, but now they are just focused on Amora Gem.

rosecut: I think your Dad just needs to lay down the law. She either gets a smaller diamond, a moissanite, or some other diamond alternative.

I saw a moissanite IRL for the first time the other day(that I know of). It looked exactly like a diamond to me. Maybe your Dad could order her one and see how she feels about it once she sees it? If it is a no go, he can return it.

Honestly, I think this is between your mum and dad. Moissanite is right for many people, but it isn’t for everyone. Perhaps she isn’t looking to impress strangers but instead wants a ring that SHE prefers and feels great about. There’s nothing wrong with wearing moissanite if that is what a person wants; but it just isn’t going to satisfy someone who wants a diamond. Perhaps she is willing to go with a slightly smaller stone to get what she really wants, or perhaps she is willing to compromise on some specs to get the size she wants.

My mum was shopping for diamond stud earrings and was shocked at the prices. I told her that at her age, everyone would assume that whatever she was wearing was genuine anyway, so why not go with a sim? She answered, “At this age, I don’t care whether I impress anyone else. I’m buying them for me, and I want the real thing.” So she saved for a while and bought what she wanted.
