When I got engaged I happily showed off my ring AND let my friends and cousins try it on.  The first time my mom saw me do it she freaked out and said I wasn't suppose to let other people try it on. Its not like these were strangers or anything it was close friends and/or family. I still let people try it on now. Anyone else do that??

I don't see why it matters. I wouldn't ask somebody if I could try theirs on though.

no no no!! my best friend let someone else try her ring on at a party and the girl could NOT get the ring off! her finger swelled & after trying everything (ice cubes, running water, oil, peanut butter, windex, elevating her hand) they had to go to the emergency room to get the ring cut off this other's girl's finger! the diamonds had to be reset and insurance did NOT cover it. needless to say, her husband was less than thrilled.

unless you completely trust someone else or they have smaller fingers than you, i would never ever let someone else try it on. they can check it out on my hand & that's it!

I've never had anyone ask. . . except my 8 year old. . . and the answer is always no to that.  She's so accident prone.  I'd have to think I'd probably say no if someone asked though... or at the very least I'd be kinda weirded out by it.

Wow! Next to "when's the wedding?" "can I try it on?" is the most popular question I get!! (But thinking about it most of the people who have asked are between 18-25. Maybe its an age thing???)

only my mom, and she only tried it on to try on my wedding band and e-ring at the same time.  i wanted to see (again) how they looked together and she told me it was bad luck to try on your wedding ring before the acutal wedding. She had to try them on, on her pinky though because her fingers are bigger than mine.

At first, I thought that it wouldn't be a problem letting people try my ring on but then reading the horror stories here, like the ring needing to be cut off and the 'bad luck'.  I will now be less willing to let people try it on.

Now saying all of that, I would proably tell the person to go to the store to try on all the different types.

I have never asked anyone if I could try their ring.  I have always asked them to show me the ring.  I don't need to see it on me but then again I'm married.  Maybe if I wasn't engaged and I could see why people want to it.

Yup.. As long as I'm close enough to the person that I trust them not to run away with : )  All of my friends have tried on my ring and I have tried on the rings of all of my engaged or married friends.  It's just something we do.  It's fun to try on other people's rings.  I know some people believe it's bad luck (that you are giving them your fiance if you give them your ring).. but I don't believe in that kind of thing.

My ring doesn't come off easily, so unless they'd like to pay to cut it off my finger, nobody will be trying it on.

Totally, it's one of the fun things of having engaged friends is switching rings! If it's a friend or someone my age who compliments my ring, I usually offer  and ask them if they want to try it on, haha! And everyone always says yes :)

Nope. Only my mom...I have put it on my hubby's pinkie though, just cuz it looks funny.  I'm not sure anyone ever asked, but I wouldn't have wanted to let anyone else try it on while I was engaged.  Maybe now that I am married I would let someone though.  I'm not relly superstitious, but I'm of the 'why risk it?' camp, when it comes to that stuff ;)

My friends from Ireland take your ring, put it on their finger, turn it three times while making a wish then give it back.  They can't tell you the wish - though I wish SOMEONE had wished that my engagement wouldn't be STOLEN right off my finger!!!  GRRRRRRRRYell

I don't think it matters at all. A lot of my friends are single, and they might want an idea of what to like when they get engaged. And girls love trying on rings, at least my friends love jewelry, anyway. When I get my ring done, I don't mind if my girlfriends try on my ring.

I've let a few close friends try it on but some random ass stranger - no. My MOH thinks it's really f**ked up for people to ask to try it on but it's not that big of a deal to me.

Yeah, in fact I have one friend/classmate who will sometimes wear it for like an hour at a time when we're in class. It's too big (waiting until we have the set to get it sized) and I'm constantly fussing with it/taking it off. She steals it.

We think it's funny; it makes my other engaged classmate super uncomfortable though.

I think it might be an age thing, too. When I was engaged at 23, I remember people asking me if they could try it on, and asking others if I could try theirs on. Now that I'm in my 30s, no one has asked me and, now that I think about it, I haven't asked annyone else, either. I heard it's bad luck to let other people try on your ring, but then again, I occasionally wear my wedding ring at home and that's supposed to be bad luck, too. :)

    @spaganya- corolla--- lmao :)

I have let quite a few people try it on, although only one actually asked! that was basically her first comment... omg so pretty let me try it on! lol. but she's a good friend so its cool. my mom has tried it on when i've asked her to hold it so i could put on hand lotion (i always take it off to put on lotion bc it has pave diamonds and they get gunky). another time i was at girl's night at my friend's apartment and a bunch of us were sitting around a table doing our nails. i took my ring off to soak my hands in this stuff and set it on the table, then one girl picked it up and was like omg i want to try it on and they passed it around. i really didn't care

Yea I have let my friends try on my ring!  There is nothing wrong with letting your friends try on your ring!   Most of my friends are not engaged so they just like to see what a ring looks like on their finger!  I am happy to have them share in my fun!

i wouldn't let anyone else try my ring on.... well except hubby. He thought we had the same size fingers so he just had to try it on. Nope... my fingers are much smaller, just like I told him. He didn't keep it on long so luckily it didn't end badly =) lol

Only if they've asked.. a friend asked to try mine on, then stuffed hers on top.. then stuffed about 4 other people's on top of that. A big pile of bling! My MIL has asked, too. Then scolded me for giving the ring bad mojo b/c you're not supposed to let anyone wear it. THen why did you ask!? haha. I don't believe in that - it's a ring. It means something to ME, but it's not cursed or something.

no, no ,no annnd no.  I cant think of anyone asking though.

There was one time I took my ring off to wash the dishes and when I went to put it back on it was gone.  i freaked, thinking did I take it off?  Did it go into the sink?  I was having a panic attack, but trying not to show it at the same time so my FI didn't know I had lost it.

About 5 min into my frnatic search, that was trying not to look frantic....I hear this uuhhhh Honey, do you know your daughter has this??  I went into the lounge room and there was my 2.5 yr old curled up on the lounge under her blanket with my ring proudly sitting on her ring finger.

I was to relieved to be angry with her :)

Well, I doubt my ring would fit too many people ... it's a very small size (4.5). But no, nobody else wears this ring but me!

One of my CLOSEST friends asked to try my ring on after i got engaged. I let her b/c i knew she'd be getting engaged soon, too.

I would, but only for my VERY good friends.

i've let other engaged friends try on my wedding bands to see if they like the style, too!

Yes... in one instance... one of my best friend's boyfriends is planning to propose in the next three or four months and mentioned he needs to find out her ring size.  So, when she and a few girlfriends took me out to drinks after the proposal and asked to see the ring, I had her try it on so I could sneakily report back to her boyfriend an approximate size.
