I think acrylic nails are evil! Seriously my first time ever getting acrylic nails was for the wedding 1month and 8 days ago, and I finally got the final tips off my nails today and my natural nails look awful underneath! Plus its been a nightmare getting them off, my husband has been laughing at me because I’ve tried everything to get them off, I wrapped my nails in foil with a pure acetone soaked cotton ball underneath, I soaked my nails in acetone, I filed that down aggressively, I cut them… and in the meantime my fingers looked a mess since some nails had the acrylic tips and others didnt. I guess that the only way acrylic nails work is if you keep getting them filled in.
Do you get acrylic nails? and how do you manage?

Never had acrylics in my life… I find (depending on the length) they look kind of frightening. Also I have to keep my nails stubby for training: Have you ever tried to make a fist with nails that long?

I do tips which are like the bottom half of acrylics without the fill at the top. Kinda like Lee Press ON nails slid half way down your nail and buffed to lay flush.
Acrylics look great but killed my nails and often led to bleeding when I ripped them off!

@Oneeleven: If I could have long nails, these are the ones I would want! You’ve got beautiful hands! (I’m so creepy!!)

I tried getting acrylics for the first time about 6 months ago to see if I would like to have them for the wedding. HATED THEM! I hated the way they buffed my nail down before applying them. It took almost the entire 6 months to grow out the ridge caused by the buffing. After the ridge grew out I tried OPI Axxium gel nails and I love them.

I had acrylics for two years sometime in highschool, and I swear it took until I was, like, 21 for my nails to recover. Never again. I prefer my nails pretty short, and shaped anyway. I’ve seen some fake nails to do look really nice, though.

i got them for my wedding because i had a bad bad bad habit of biting my nails. seriously for my entire life i havent been able to stop, nervous habit. – but for some reason a few months ago i just stopped and they grew long and strong – even when i would let them grow before they would break or flake – sorry haha, im so proud that i was able to beat that habit! and i think they look just as lovely as fake nails
Acrylics are a pain the butt – especially if you have no plans on keeping them up. Taking them off is the worst, totally ruins your real nails
excuse the blue – i’ve had way too much fun with paint lately now that they are worth painting

I personally have to have nails. I get gel nails because they are harder but I have VERY thin and short fingers so without fake nails, my hands so not look feminine. I keep mine short because I am in college and I type a lot. I just got mine done yesterday.

I love the look of them etc. But I can say you are right they do ruin your natural nails. I have had gel nails for about the last four years. I gotthem off about three weeks ago.. Saving money for the wedding foregoing getting my nails done lol and my nails are weak and look awful. As bad as they are though.. I love the way that they look. I plan on getting them again for sure… for the wedding but probably not before, trying to cut back on spending lol

I’ve noticed a lot of fake nails are wider at the tip than they are at the base. Does anyone like that look? I mean real nails don’t grow that way…

atleast I know am not the only one that hates them! until you get them you never know how much work it takes to get them off!
@Oneeleven: wow I wasnt aware that you could just get tips.. hmm maybe when I recover from the trauma of these nails I may consider those cos they look great!

I used to get acrylics, but I recently switched over to gel nails and I am so glad I did, I love them!

are you talking about the kind of nail treatment that makes them super thick and you have to get the gap filled in when they grow out? I think they look fake and gross. I’m sorry, but I do. I don’t know how anybody can think they are fooling anyone.
the photos of the nails posted above look good to me though– not like the kind I am thinking of.

@bells: if you can find a place around you that does it I’d suggest CalGel. I had acrylic on my nails a while ago and the CalGel really helped them heal while they were growing back. It’s a simple UV gel manicure that is super hardy and lasts about 4 weeks. You can either soak them off with nail polish remover on your own, or have the salon do it for you. Little to no damage to your nails afterwards.

No because acrylics are hard on your nails, if I do fake I do gels, never ever ever would go back to acrylics
