We are camping for our honeymoon!!! (Yellowstone) ๐Ÿ˜€ Love it, we take several camping vacations each year! I’m like you though, hate hiking with a big pack, so we do day hikes and come back to camp for the evening.

I refer to camping as “pretending to be homeless”. ๐Ÿ™‚ Personally, a vacation to me is sleeping in a room nicer than mine at home, eating out and seeing sights. I envy people who like to camp, though. You can get a lot more nice vacations for your buck than I can!

@Woodstock:  My very first week-long camping vaca with FI, we were traveling over a few different campgrounds, and we figured at least one of them would have showers (didn’t do much research, more spur-of-the-moment camping) but none of them did! We met his mother for lunch on the last day and she was like “wow, you guys look like hell” haha but we were SO HAPPY!!

Yep! It’s cheap, cozy, and we can bring our two dogs with us instead of leaving them with family. I happen to love getting cozy around a camp fire and going on hikes. We always bring a tent, a two-person sleeping bag, and some kind of pad to sleep on. Usually we only camp for 2-3 days so we can just forgo showers until we get back, but for longer trips, we favor campgrounds with showers.

The last camping trip I went on was with the nieces in the backyard, with electric chords from the house so we  could watch movies.  That was rough man. lol.

I’ve been camping but it seems like it was alot easier when I was in college.

I like it. I have done it without showering.

I don’t poop (or pee, for that matter) in the woods. However, I will happily sleep in a tent and do not require hot water–or even a shower. I’ve been camping in this manner several times and really enjoyed myself. However, I’m non-negotiable on the presence of toilets, even if they are simply outhouses.

LOVE it! Our first date/when we admitted we liked each other was a two day back country trip in a canoe.

We try to go backcountry (mostly canoe camping from lake to lake) 4+ times a year. Our dog loves it too! We do the drive in camping a few times with friends too.

As for showering…we have special soap and wash in the lake! Nothing like a little fun and skinny dipping (the places we go are usually kilometers/hours out from other people)!

@ArtDecoDC:  The parks we go back country in often have “thunderboxes”. You can guess why they are named that way! Almost like an open air outhouse. Works as there are never people around and they tend to be a short hike from designated campsites. Just curious if you’d use them. I actually prefer them to outhouses as they don’t tend to stink! I get really squeemish in dirty public bathrooms and would prefer to squat in remote bush!

@Woodstock:  it is! Except when our dog comes in with us and tries to lick our faces while we’re washing out shampoo ๐Ÿ˜‰
