It is really creepy but at the same I do data mining for the place I work at and it feels cool and weird at the same time.
It is CREEEEEEEEPY! & Besides that fact, these stores never know if they are keeping the baby, if they have MC or anything!
That is creepy. I was excited about Target opening here in 2013, now not so much.
That whole article makes me a tad uncomfortable! I know stores collect info, but a "pregnancy prediction score"? Weird.
Mm I can't say I like it but I don't hate it either. Almost every store does it, I have heard that Best Buy is the best in its analytics and targeted marketing techniques. It's just where we are technology and marketing wise.
@eloping: I wonder if they do! Probably not, who knows. But I suppose they will keep on keeping on. haha
I know places collect information, but I try to forget about it. I don't give my address or email address to get coupons, but they get you with the reward/discount cards.
I'd be creeped out by the baby thing, but since it's not affecting me in any major way I don't really have a stron opinion.
I think I must be the only weird one who thinks this is cool and not creepy. Well, maybe a tad creepy lol. But really, Target is definitely not the only place that does this. Tons of stores do this. Easiest solution if it makes you uncomfortable; pay with cash.
Personally, I like it because that means I get coupons for things I actually want to buy!
@Juliepants: That's what I was thinking as well. I knew that stores collected information already but I didn't think that they were doing much with it.
I usually have all of my ads blocked in my browsers as well but the other day disabled them. I hate feeling like I'm being watched non-stop. Every ad was directly related to something I looked at. Creepy stalkers.
Unfortunately this is part of being in business in the 21st Century. It's just marketing, you've got to play the game or get out!
As a marketer, my initial reaction was, "This is brilliant!" As a person, I think it's a little bit creepy but still really fascinating. Now I can't help but think what my purchases say about me!
But, remember, as long as you use cash, you can duck the system.
Haha, I've been cross border shopping for pre-natals for the last six months; I bet they're just itching to send me some coupons :P
I do analytical work for a living, so I obviously think this is brilliant.
Honestly - stores have been doing this for a long time. It doesn't really bother me though. I'm not hiding anything and I get coupons and discounts personalized to what I need, want, and buy.
