I'm starting to really like them but Im unsure if theyre too unformal or not traditional enough?
I love them... I didn't want to, but when I went dress shopping it's the most flattering and beautiful I felt in every dress I put on.
I'm totally wearing Aspen by Maggie Sottero
Personally, I like them very much. As someone who looks great in a peplos, I wanted very much to find one but ended up going the more conventionally unconventional route.
Anyhoo, I think this dress and others like it are gorgeous, and if this dress sings to you, then don't worry about it being informal. I'm sure that whatever you pick, you're going to look like a million bucks :-)
I love them - I tried on some but ultimately went with something else. I especially like one shoulder grecian dresses.
I actually love this style, but it is not flattering on me. I think with the right body shape though, it's gorgeous!
I like the one posted by prettylizy but the one in the first pic I'm not so sure.... kind of reminds me of a nightgown..... (a very sexy one of course)
Oh yes I love them very very much! So flowy and pretty and lovely :)
LOVE them! I actually wore a Maggie very similar to what prettylizy posted, the Maggie Sottero Ireland. One of the best things about this style of dress is that they tend to be flattering on everyone because of the empire waist and relaxed skirt. Also, a lot of them are made out of super lightweight material, which makes wearing the dress all night really comfortable. Plus, I got a ton of compliments on how unique my gown was!
I love them! I don't know if mine really counts, but this is the one I went with:

Agree with hellohellohello, I love prettylizy's gown, but not the first posted pic. Not very flattering and kinda has an "expecting mother" look IMO. But we all have different tastes which is why there are sooo many different styles out there, and every bride should wear what she feels most beautiful in.
I like them! I think it totally depends on your venue and the formalness of the wedding! I had a friend who wore a beautiful dress that had kindof a grecian goddess type look. It was perfect for her personality and perfect for their backyard wedding. Personally, I love them, but ultimately went with something more traditional.
When I went started my shopping, I didn't even look at them - I thought they were lovely, but believed that you need to be a Grecian goddess to pull it off. Mom & MOH both saw one hanging over the arm of a passing consultant & insisted that I try it...once on my body I LOVED IT!!! It's totally the one I'm wearing for my wedding.
Possibly on the negative side for your post, @jwinnings, my wedding is rather informal (daytime, outdoor, with Aloha attire as the guest "dress code"), so I DO think it can go the informal route. But I think @prettylizy's dress is elegant, & not informal at all. So maybe it depends on how you dress up the first one (the one you posted)...with the right bling & ambience, I think the dress could swing "formal".
I think it would just look like a maternity wedding dress on me, but I really think they're pretty!
ooooh, @jwinnings, I think the second one could be VERY sophisticated! Especially if you wear your hair in a style similar to the picture!
I like the look a lot but I find that the straight across neckline with an empire waist is not so flattering on most women! If it looks good one you, moer power to you! I wish I could pull that off.
i never thought of them as "maternity like" as some of you are saying but i can see where youre coming from.
i tried a few of them on, but they made me feel like i was trying to hide something! they look good on the right body type though.
I LOVE that style of dress sooooo much, mine has an empire waist too! That first one is so pretty but like others have mentioned, slightly less formal so I supposed it depends on what your wedding is like and whether it looks good on you...Got a pic of you in the dress?
I think they're gorgeous, but I know, without trying them on, that they won't fit my body type AT ALL! My chest is entirely too large!
It didn't flatter my body shape so well, which is too bad because I love the look and feel. I needed a little more structure to emphasize "hourglass" instead.
@alishaneva-i know how you feel, i could never wear the first dress i posted because of my large chest
I love the look esp for a relaxed beachy wedding like mine I am wearing a Maggie destination dress
i love them but i cant wear them because i am a bigger gal so they just make me look huge.I have large hips and i need my smaller waste excentuated more than those dresses do.
Id say if you are a smaller bride or your pregnant then their are perfect.
pretty much...i like looking at them on other brides and think they look great on the models but not on me! :)
good luck
@danielle...I am a bigger gal too and I will be rocking my grecian style dress on my wedding day...excuse the blurriness of the picture.
@jwinnings...thanks. I am having a DW and I just love the romantic "flowiness" of it =)
I've seen some I thought were pretty and others I don't care for. But as a whole, I wouldn't say that I love or hate them. It depends on how flattering they are on the bride. If it looks great on her and she loves it then great. Also, every designer (and magazine for that matter) has their interpretation of "Grecian goddess". Many of them that are classified under that category, I don't care for and I would never categorize them as such, but to each their own. That said, there are beautiful Grecian styles out there. It's nothing more than an empire style dress. They work on some people and not others. However I don't understand the logic behind "they make everyone who wears them look pregnant". Quite a few actually don't but it depends on how they are cut by the seamstresses.
In the end though, it's no different than "do you love or hate mermaid/ballgown/fill-in-the-blank for the bride?".
I found this one too(just browsing) and think it's quite beautiful as well. do you think "greek goddess" style dresses fall under the more "trendy" category though?
I love grecian styles but they just don't do much for me. Gorgeous gowns, girls!
I am the same kind of torn you are even after trying them on. I do really love them on some people that have had all different body types but on me I just felt like they were informal looking. It must be something about my build because I had really liked the style at other wedding's I'd been to. I dont think they're too trendy though, I feel like a lot of the dresses posted here are really beautiful, I'd have a hard time imagining in 30 years looking back and thinking ugh what a silly trend.
I adore them! My reception dress is greek goddess-esque! I think its so romantic.
Here it is, mine's the one on the left.
That style does nothing for me but I think they are pretty on other people. My friend is going with that style and it's so her. Me, I would look ridiculous.
I think grecian style wedding gowns are gorgeous and really flattering on most body types, but I couldn't see myself in one.
I agree. I think they look amazing on brides that wear them, but it's just not the style I would wear.
