What awesome gift (s) did you get your FI as a wedding gift?

my FI loves cars, and if I were a mutli millionare.. or a thousandaire for that matter, I would have bought him a car and surprised him on our big day. Reality kicks in and reminds me that I only have a couple of hundreds and with preparing for the wedding/ and other needs Im just very limited. I wanted to buy him something like car keys to his favorite car and have it wrapped. Basically what I thought was,  he would be so motivated to have the keys that he would save up for his dream car. Then my sisters said it was a really stupid idea lol. So after doing a little research I came across these Cufflinks,

    Do you like?

would you mind share YOUR Gift ideas with me? I would appreciate it bunches!

My FI is a car guy too! AND I got him cufflinks.

I was going to get him these really cool ones that look like car gauges (cuffconnection.com btw, they have several car-related ones) but instead I got him some carbon fiber ones. He loves the look of carbon fiber, and to him it relates to cars.

As far as the Porsche ones, does he love Porches or are they just an example? My car guy is a "Chevy Guy." <-- Camaros, Corvettes, Trucks, etc. But I wanted to get him some that were car-related without being maybe something he won't ever decide to buy. Does that make sense?

I'm also buying him something off our registry at Sears. I know that sounds weird, but so far no one has bought any of his car stuff (he registered for some tools and garage organization stuff) and I know he wouldn't say anything but I think it made him a little sad. :( So I'm going to fix it! Lol.

I do like the cufflinks. My guy is also a car guy - volkswagens - so I would like to get him something special like that too, but I haven't really thought about it yet since our wedding is a while away. But I'm thinking maybe an accessory or something for his car. I want to get him something he will actually use or see everyday - and i love the cufflinks but he'd never actually get to wear them. But I like the fact that they are a special keepsake he'll always have.

I have to say I don't understand the cufflink gift craze (with groomsmen, for example). Do people ever wear cufflinks? Perhaps if your FI has a job for which he wears a suit and he can pop the cufflinks on that would be good, otherwise it will probably just sit on the dresser or something. Ameliabedelia, does your DH ever get to wear his?

I think the cufflinks are a great idea. I think cufflinks are a more traditional and appropriate gift. The car theme makes it personal for him, but still achieves the inspirational aspect of your original key ideal.

@Keltaena:  You make a good point, will he ever get to wear them?

I'm not too crazy about it.  Personally, I wouldnt want to use something like that branded with a luxury item if I didnt actually already own the item.

I love the cufflinks! My guy is a farmer and loves his tractors, so I'm planning on getting him a pair of John Deere cufflinks. As far as practicality goes, I think it depends on your particular situation. For us, while HIS job doesn't require him to dress up, I'm a law student...which means in the future we'll probably have MY work events to go to that will require him to wear a suit. This way, he'll get to rewear his wedding cufflinks on those fancy occassions. :)

@Keltaena:  He doesn't have them yet, our wedding is in 3 weeks. We do go to events that he will be able to wear them to and enjoy them, yes.

@msbadger7:  Exactly - my volunteer organization (it's uh, large) and my future job will definitely have things he can dress up at! He doesn't have to wear them to work. Lol. But then again, I'm not going to be wearing the earrings I know he got me to work either.

@AmeliaBedelia:  That's good. I guess it depends on the guy! I do like cufflinks besides the worry about them never getting used.

@Mrsgurzakovic: So, I guess if you think your guy will get to wear them, it's a great idea. I do like them a lot.

I got my FI cufflinks too. I had budgeted £300-400 ($450-600) for his present but found a pair of 18k gold cufflinks and tie pin for £495 ($750) and then a gold-plated chain for his pocket watch (which only has a silver chain at the moment).

I wasn't really planning to spend that much but I know he's getting me Choos so I wanted to get him something equally fabulous.

@Mrsgurzakovic:  I love cuff links, but wouldn't get him porsche ones if he doesn't own a porsche.

My fiance has cuff links and he loves them (I got them with a french cuff shirt and a plaid tie for Vday last year). Some people think you can't wear cuff links often, it's just a matter of taste. My fiance never had a super fancy job but he wears the cuff links when we go somewhere, or to meetings, or events. If he is stylish/fashionable he will wear them regularly.

Well Im thinking that hell wear them for many wedding occasions well go to, Or any event that requires him to wear a suit.

Question though : Do I give it to  him AFTER our wedding ( When were alone, so I can give it to him and make it very special and intimate ?) Or before? Im not sure exactly when would be a good time lol

@AmeliaBedelia:  I thnk its so CUTE that your buying one of the things off the registry for him! hes going to be super happy about that! Very thoughtful! Im going to ask him tonight what his favorite car is exactly - Besides it could be something he mght be motivated by to save up for in the future ( a car that is ! )

@Mrsgurzakovic:  What does he wear to work? Mine has got really into shirts with cufflinks for work; far more sophisticated than button cuffs!

I like them!  But then, I also bought my hubby cufflinks as a wedding gift for him to wear at the wedding.  We're both "Dr. Who" nuts, so they had the TARDIS on them.
