I was wondering how important or how much you like to be able to keep up with your chosen photographer on their blog.
Is it something as a bride you do regularly before your wedding? Do you go to your photographers web site often and check their new stuff out? Or check their blog and see what they have been doing?
What type of posts do you like to see?
Thanks!
Robin
When I choose my photographer, I'd love to keep up with their blog (if they have one). It would be nice to see their other work and even get new poses to ask the photographer about.
I pretty much blog stalk my photographer... but then again, everything she does is completely amazing and I wouldn't want to miss an image!
I picked her because wedding after wedding, image after image she never failed to blow me away. I followed her for some time before I contacted her... and having her was so important that we changed our date!
Ok so I guess I should keep on top of my blog!! LOL Thanks guys!
I love checking my photogs blog! I think she does great work and I love seeing all her new stuff.
I love checking in on my photographers blog and site to see what new weddings and boudior shots she's covered.
I stalk my photogs blog, and am friends on facebook. We talked enough via comments and facebook adn emails before the wedding that we were so comfortable, I couldnt have asked for a better photog experience. Now that the wedding is over and done, I still stalk the blog and communicate with them on facebook/emails. For us, it made a very big difference in ideas for photos, feeling comfortable with our choices, and being relaxed on the day of.
I love checking out my photographers blog - I love to see ALL of his images but I am his #1 fan and I am soooo happy I got him - YAY!
i definitely stalk my photog's blog. I love seeing all his work over and over again. And then I get giddy that I have chosen the right photographer for my wedding day!
I absolutely follow my photographer's blog. He is very talented and I love his work. I also get really good ideas for my own wedding photos - there are standard shots he seems to take of every bride in Philadelphia that I love and want for myself.
I definitely keep up with my photographer's blog and website. She doesn't update too too often, but when she does, it's a treat.
I totally stalk his blog...but i never comment! Which is kinda wrong since i know how much i love comments. But it's really just that i don't want him to know how often I check his blog! I like seeing couples recaps and when he goes to conferences and when he gets awards (and which pics they were for).
Oh! and we follow each other on twitter :)
I check out his blog pretty often... more often than he updates hehe! I think its a great feature and was actually settled my decision to hire him!
Yes. And I'd much prefer if she kept it all to work related stuff. I get tired of reading about her dogs and husband and other personal things (a million mispelled words? UGH). I think a photographer's professional blog (tied to their pretty flash website of course) should be dominanted by their work. Otherwise, have a personal AND a professional.
I should have stalked more, but I was scared to book a photographer less than 12 months in advance so i booked after 1 week. Now i have figured out how blogs work and I see few followers and no commenting and then I see "famous photographers" blogs and see how interactive their blog is for their clients and i love that.
I agree with ejs about keeping a mainly professional blog. I wouldn't hire somebody with a blog like she described. I'm in the process of picking a photographer right now and one of them has such an annoying blog {she has that program that makes every other letter caps?} that I won't consider her. It just seems so childish and is that really what I want that around me on the day of? I'm sure she's great and she's won some awards for her work, but I can already tell our personalities won't mesh.
Blogs are a great way to stay connected. I have a long list of blogs I frequent daily - it's a lot of fun seeing everyone's new stuff throughout the months :)
When I was looking for a photographer I stalked a lot of blogs. I now look at my photographer's blog about once a week. I still look at my engagement shoot photographer's blog as well.
Definitely. I am a true blog stalker as well. I guarantee you get more blog views than the comments and such lead you to believe.
In fact, I am very close to choosing my photographer, and one of his most promising features is that he updates his blog so regularly that you can count on seeing your own photos within a week of the wedding!
Oh, and to answer your other questions: on a photographer's blog, I expect to see mainly or only professional photo posts. I love it when photographers include bits of stories of where they've been or how a shoot went, but it must be followed by the actual photos of your recent wedding/engagement shoot/etc to keep my interest.
Agreed. Talking about it with no pictures does me no good! We want photo porn =]
Particularly any nifty photo editing you can do that is above and beyond the standard. Even if we don't want our wedding pictures to be that way, it's nice to see the creative range that are out there, even if it's just to show off what you can do just for the sake of it. I like when photographers keep a general portfolio of particularly "creative" works. Not too many do. Some title this "artistic" but I think it's really cool to see the really out there stuff.
Gah, I should have stalked my photographer's blog more. Granted, she was much much better about it 15 months ago than she has been since i booked her. It has waned terribly and I think it's due to lack of clientelle.
You don't have to go crazy editing things just to post a quick recap. any recap is still good! I still haven't seen a blog post of my wedding, which was june 20th. I think that's just sad. I have a photography friend who says she always blogs within 48 hours. She said it's just not that hard to put up a few pictures, write a quick little caption, and edit later in the week. i know mine were at the graphic designers' but i dont' see how she couldn't have posted about it and put up a few quicky unedited pictures just to do it and recap the wedding. Diligency in blogging is key. People like updates, otherwise they dont' visit as often.
Clean layouts are good, too. I'm tired of these really clustered blogs that are difficult to navigate and sloppy. BTW, i like how your blog includes 'tips' particularly for boudoirs. I think lots of ladies would find that really helpful! I think it's a sign of confidence when a photographer is willing to share their knowledge (strong client base). And, proves that they really know their stuff =].
Once I make my final photog selection, I will definitely keep up with their blog for ideas and style.
Oh and please if you can, invest in a good website that loads fast! I HATE photographer websites that take a long time to load each pic. Ack.
Yep I definitely blog stalk my photographer. It's so fun to see all their work and get excited for my wedding.
Hey Bees,
Us photographers LOVE it when you leave nice comments about us on the Blogs so just go ahead and do it and do it often!! We will notice and remember you for your kindness!!!
And Thanks to every one who has jumped in on this post. I had no idea brides checked blogs so much!
hahah!! that photo reminds me of my nephew poking his dad's belly!
Blogs, facebook, and twitter are very important to photographers and other vendors business and work! I love blogging, I have been blogging since I was in college! So for me it is also a livelihood, not just to display my work.
A website and a blog is very very important to me. I checked lots and lots when I first started planning and hiring my vendors - now I'm so busy, but I still check from time to time!
I would if mine had a blog :( She's on myspace but she doesn't update often.
The little girl in that photo was getting tired of having her picture taken and the shoot was basically over because she would not cooperate any more! So, out of desperation to get a few more shots I told her hey your mom has a hole in her belly stick your finger in it and see if you can touch your new baby! Well the mother started laughing and the kid started working with me again. :)
I Stalk with a capital "S" my photographer's blog. I actually don't think I would book a photographer if they didn't have one or didn't update it regularly. I also check other area photographer's blogs to get ideas for picture locations. There was one photographer I checked for a while, but stopped because their "blog" never consisted of any pictures.
I stalk photographer's blog even when they're not mine! Haha. It's definitely cool when you're actually using the photographer ~ it makes it easier to understand their style and make requests!
Lol. I love photographers blogs in general. I, of course, stalk my photog because I love the photos they take but it also gives me ideas of photos I would like taken at my wedding. I also stalk other photographers blogs for the same reason. If the blog loads fast and is updated once a week I normally stick it on my check weekly list.
Yes! I visit my photog's blog quite frequently! :) I helps me get ideas for shots I want to have on my wedding day and it's fun to see what other clients she's had.
I'm an event designer and before I refer a bride to a photographer I check the blogs! Most of my brides enjoy the lifestyle portraiture and if their blogs and clients aren't saying they do a fantastic job, etc., then they probably aren't the proper photographers for that particular person. You can also post specials that you have and fun stories about particular photos.
I have so many brides that I'm now friends with but no one posts on the bolog..
I guess I'm going to have to start encouring them to post.
Girls go post on your photographers blog they will love it!
I watched our photographers blog long before the wedding day, "friending" them on facebook and twitter so I knew when they had a new post! It got me excited to see what new things they were doing and then remind myself "oh ya!! their documenting MY special day! AWESOME!!" It got me really excited. And now after the wedding I still keep looking at their blog to see what new things their up to and what their doing now. They have an awesome blog and website and I encourage you to look at it and read about 'em! They ROCK!! (picture attached was from our wedding 3 weeks ago!)

I totally stalk my photographer's blog. I still stalk it to this day after we've been married. I love seeing how his photography evolves. I'm a HUGE fan of comments on the blogs. He also has a facebook where he posts notes and posts pictures on it too so if I forget to go on the blog I can see it via facebook.
I definitely keep up with my photographer's blog. Especially bc there is so much time between booking/choosing and the actual wedding date. I want to see how their style is evolving, is it for better or worse, in terms of what I'm looking for.I look for recaps, relatively fast posting after weddings (this way I know when it comes time to my wedding I don't have to wait FOREVER for some teasers). And other vendors that were at that wedding is also appreciated! Where the wedding is, makeup artist used, DJs, etc. That's really important to me, it drives me crazy reading some blogs that feature real weddings and then they never tell you where it actually is.
