DH and I are ( sort of) house hunting, with some recent let downs so we are taking it slow. We looked at one on Saturday that we both LOVED. There seriously wasn’t one thing wrong with it other than the paint needed to be touched up in a couple spots. The kitchen was exactly the size and specs I wanted.
He mentioned he wasn’t a huge fan of the white appliances, but it definitely isn’t a deal breaker and something we might upgrade in the future.
Do you think white appliances are classic and pretty timeless or that stainless steel is the way to go? I looove the look of stainless, but the white is surpisingly growing on me, the cabinets are a medium brown (not actual photos of the house, just close):
Would this even be something to ” upgrade”? I fee like most appliances at some point need to be traded out, so on our ” must have” list, I would mark this under maintenance before an upgrade.

I prefer stainless steel but I def wouldn’t pass up a house because it had white appliances. And stainless would be my ideal kitchen. Right now I have white, and I don’t have the countertops or backsplash I want, but my kitchen is roomy and functional, and cozy, and that it what really matters to me! And some day when we have more spare cash we will upgrade the works.

I prefer stainless, but I certainly wouldn’t pass up a house based on the colors of the appliances. I’d probably wait until one died and replace them all. I think mixing a white fridge with say a stainless stove might be weird… So I’d just do them around the same time.

I prefer stainless, but I don’t think that a kitchen having white appliances is a reason to not buy a house, since it’s fairly easy, relatively inexpensive, and good for value-adding if you update the appliances after you purchase the house. I bought a house with a big, lovely kitchen that had formica countertops and white appliances, and we replaced everything with stainless (and granite countertops, tile backsplash) after we moved in and it looks great!

@Mrs_Amanda: If they are newer appliances, you may be able to buy facings in black or stainless for them. I wouldn’t make white appliances a dealbreaker if everything else about the house is great (you can always replace appliances and you will likely have to at some point anyway.)
I personally prefer black shiny because I can wipe it down easily with bleach and Windex to keep the shine showing without the fingerprints. Plus, white tends to yellow over time. I had one stainless appliance and it drove me crazy because no matter how often I cleaned it, it was never clean enough and it always had oily fingerprints on it.

I like being able to have magnets on my fridge, none of the SS ones I’ve seen stick magnets on the front.

I think white applicance look ok with ligher cabinets, but I’m not a fan of the contrast with dark cabinets. I would prefer white over black appliances though. Stainless is just such a good neutral to go with any color kitchen.

We have stainless steel and it’s my favorite. I prefer black over white, but I think that white is very classic and won’t go out of style.

I like white appliances, but then again, I like white kitchens. I think that white is definitely the easiest to clean (I cook constantly).

I like white appliances and have them, with white cabinets as well, and dark hardwood flooring. I love it! Stainless is gorgeous, too, so one day I may upgrade to that but for now I love my white. 🙂
I like the white appliances on the pictures you posted, they look nice with the cabinetry, nice contrast.

I bought a house with white appliances and I have no intention of buying stainless steel. We also have white cabinets and I like the look of it, Stainless appliances makes kitchens LOOK newer but they dont necessarily perform any better.
I wouldnt not buy a house for anything I could do myself. It’s usually cheaper that way anyway.

I think white appliances can definitely work in certain kitchens. I don’t personally believe that stainless steel is a “must.” I think the appliances work really well in the photos you posted!

White appliances can be great. As long as they’re clean and in working order, I wouldn’t give it a second thought. We have a mix of black and white appliances and will replace them as they die (we’ve even picked out the stainless models we want already). Focus on things like the layout and cabinets in the kitchen. It’s easy to upgrade appliances, but not so easy to change cabinets, floors, or overall layout.

I bought a house with white appliances, and it looks great. I actually prefered black appliances, but white doesn’t bother me. Definitely not a deal breaker!
