I live an hour away from Sacramento and love it! Sac is pretty big and there are a lot of things to do! Plus, you’re in between Tahoe and the Bay Area which is PERFECT. I would live there if I could. 🙂

Hi, I am from there! And although i didn’t appreciate it at the time of growing up because I am a big city girl…moved to LA for college,,,being a little bit older I would love nothing more but to move back home.

Your best bet to find everything you are looking for is a place called MID-TOWN SAC. its the perfect blend of being green, liberal and gay friendly (my older brother is gay and lives in mid-town and LOVES it!

Most of my friends that have move back to Sacramento after college and the majority of them live in MID-town. It’s close to everything, has a great sense of community and the price of living is not too bad. You will also experience a great summer time tradition called second-saturdays in mid-town…where art galleries, bars and boutiques and restaurants stay open late 1 saturday every month in the summer and the community comes out and enjoys great live music and good eats!

Hope this helps and wish you the best of luck in your move!

@moonadea:  I was raised in the SF Bay Area and currently live there, but went to college in the Sac area. It’s great for it’s proximity to SF and Tahoe but is itself nothing to write home about. The city and suburbs are huge, but there is really no downtown. It’s really just a lot of strip malls. There’s very little in terms of dining and I found it to be pretty blah although you can get a lot of house there for the money. In college my friends and I lovingly referred to it as “the armpit of California”. Let me know if you have any questions about it.

I live in Sacramento, born and raised. It’s a pretty nice place to live. One of the things that I like about California as a whole is that we don’t have any humidity on the west coast. The nice thing about Sacramento is that it’s pretty close to everything. You are 2 hours from Lake Tahoe, 2 hours from San Francisco, 6 hours from L.A. and there’s a lot of stuff to do here. We live really close to the bike traile (1/2 of a block) and my DH is about to ride his bike down town to work every day which he loves. During the summer we have Second Saturday, which is in the Mid Town area and it’s an art walk, local art galleries stay open late, resturants do special menus, it’s fun. We also have a AAA baseball team called the Sacramento Rivercats, they are the Oakland A’s minor league team, the games are super fun and you can go to a game for as cheap as $9/ticket. My DH and I love going! There are lots of communities within a stones throw of Sacramento (Roseville, Folsom, Elk Grove, Davis to name a few) but Sacramento is in the middle of all of them. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions!

NapaBride could not be more wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I live in the heart of Downtown and have lived here for 14 years. The burbs suck. They are stip malls and boring. Downtown is amazing and I ADORE it here!!!! Our night life is huge and we have had an explosion of amazing restaurants and bars lately, not to mention 2nd Saturdays and all the other amazing events that are in Midtown and Downtown. There are NO strip malls down here and the local restaurants outnumber the chains 10 to 1. There is also just really fun shopping (up and down J Street is the best), lots of parks, and as a runner and biker there are lots of places to get outside. I was car-less for two years because I didn’t need a car down here, since I live and work Downtown. The live music scene is amazing. The art scene is amazing.

Basically, Downtown is awesome and I LOVE IT!!!

The burbs are the burbs and they are like any other suburban area I guess, so if you  moved there (where it’s cheapest) you get what you get out there. But saying that Downtown is strip malls and has nothing to offer ….well, I think you’ve never actually been downtown!
