I like some of 'her' ideas on her website but as far as her as a person I am indifferent!
I used to love watching her show when it was on. I have tried some of her recipies and they have all come out delicious. I always buy her bridal magazine to when it comes it because it has so many good ideas.
I don't so much look up to her as hate her because she does everything better than me :P
I'm kidding, of course, but she is just so perfect that I think she makes us regular gals look bad sometimes.
Not at all, but then again, I'm not a crafty person in the least. Seems like everything she does is A LOT of work! She seems like a decent person, though :)
I really like her stuff, she's creative and especially for bridal things puts out a lot more unique ideas. But some of her stuff does seem like a ton of work so it's not always practicl but then again I'm not crafty.
I agree that she's very creative but a lot of her stuff is not very practical. But she does have great ideas and I wish I was more crafty and was able to do the stuff that she does.
I think she is amazing but who has time to do all that stuff??
Right after I had my son, I stayed at home for 2 years. During that phase, I became a "Martha Convert". I have several of her books. I think she's genius.
My latest love affair is with her Destination Weddings magazine that FINALLY came out! Oh dear the good things that ooze from that mag and the easy semi-DIY projects?
I'm not crafty, but the food and recipes she makes are amazing. That's what I look up to. If I had more time, I think I could get more into the crafty stuff.
I admire her Regime.
I'm not gonna lie - I've totally nicknamed myself the black Martha Stewart!! Heehehee. Despite her shortcomings, I love her and what she does with the world! She's really creative, and even though a lot of her stuff kind of makes me laugh and go "I would never do that!" or "I would never have a need to make anything as silly as that!", I think her ideas are great.
You all know the ladies who were in the jail with her really liked her. She taught them how to knit and make crafts.
I think she got a bad rap and is possibly irl much different than the media portrays her. Obviously she's doing something amazing and look at her empire of goodness she's created!
Go Martha Go!!!!!
No, I love the people who work for her. She is talented, that's for sure, but her editors, etc, produce so much stuff that she probably never even goes over.
I admire her for what she was able to create. She went from burnt-out stockbroker to household name. She built her empire on a DIY home renovation and a catering company run out of her home.
I'm a crafty person, and definitely appreciate her tutorials and ideas. Yes, many of them probably come from her employees, but they are still published by the company she built. I also love to cook, and her recipes turn out well.
As to the person, I don't know her, so I can only decide based on her public persona. She committed a crime and got the corresponding jail time, which put her morals at doubt. At the same time, many people would be tempted to sell off by the insider information she got and a prosecutor was looking to make his career. She seems like a nice person, but unlike other public personalities does little publicized non-profit or charity work.
ab-so-friggin-lutely!!! i love all things martha and to be honest with you if you want to keep me happy stick me on a crafting aisle or in a crafting store and i will be gone for HOURS at a time!!
I agree with @crebre80!!! I am OBSESSED with Martha :) I just got her destination wedding magazine. I am always so excited and impressed by her, the woman can do ANYTHING.
Has anyone seen her show live?!?
Nope - not at all. I turn off the TV if she's on, or change the channel.
She's crafty and creative...she's not a "hero" for simply being the domesticated queen of everything. I don't look up to or idolize people like this in general who make a living baking and sewing and crafting.
I admire her creativity, definitely....lots of good recipes, etc. But let's face it, SHE does not come up with all those ideas. She has a team of creative personnel doing it for her nowadays and she tweaks and executes.
She scares me a little..but I respect the craft. And I like looking through her aisle in the craft stores.
I envy the space she has to garden/craft/cook...and the staff! Not sure I look up to her though...she kind of scares me lol
I actually like her stuff, but find that I gravitate toward some of the internet crafting gurus more.
I am impressed with what she's done and how she reclaimed her life, but I don't really look up to her.
Penga, allison - don't look directly into her eyes and you won't turn to stone ;)
I agree with ejs - I don't consider my a personal hero or anything, but I do greatly respect her for the empire she's built on being a homemaker, which I think sometimes get a bad rap - but she's kind of made it cool again. I think when people hear, "I'm a homemaker" it's instantly looked down upon as not being important, but I disagree. While I'm a young professional career woman now, I want to be a homemaker in five or six years when we have kids. And I'll be following Martha every stpe of the way! She's wonderful inspiration for women who are driven, but want to also be crafty and stay in touch the idea of a "home."
And who am I kidding? I definitely DVR'd her two Thanksgiving specials on the Fine Living Network.
I like her ideas and creativity but as a person - meh. The Little Miss Perfect Domestic Goddess persona annoyed me. But then she went to jail so maybe I'm Ok with her now. I can't decide. Love her wedding mags, though. I like to separate the person from the product.
Nope. I don't look up to her. She sure knows how to market the heck out of a brand, though!
And as far as a prosecutor trying to make his career out of prosecuting Martha for insider trading? . . . not so much. As a former stockbroker, Martha was only too aware of the potential consequences for violating securities regulations, and in so doing, knowingly and willingly assumed the risk. Any attempt to make her out to be an unassuming victim who fell prey to the ravages of financial temptation is hardly doing this shrewd, wildly successful entrepreneur *justice* (pun intended).
NOT AT ALL...I don't think it's right that she did the things she did and after her short stint in jail, came back to TV like nothing happened. She's not the kind of person I would want my kids (future) to look up to. I hate that the media adores her like they do and it's ok for everyone just to forget what she did.
Me & Martha - it's a love/hate thing. I love to hate her. I think the MARTHAco. & all the Omnimedia folks are amazing & creative and I give them more credit cuz I heard she's a nightmare to work for – Devil Wears Prada style. I know her products are quality, and she has some good ideas & the pictures are pretty but that's about it.
I can’t stand how every 5 seconds, everything is & has to be “Perfect”.
Did anyone see the episode when she showed you how to fold laundry? I mean really, how stupid does she think we are? I used to love when she had her mom on the show & she'd put her in her place - it was hysterical.
Has anyone ever seen “Whatever Martha”? It’s basically her daughter Alexis sitting there, watching her mom’s show and mocking it. LOL
I look up to her fabulous pies and crafty items...but not her b!tchiness!
I'd probably look up to her if I met her in real life. I'm sure, like most people, she's probably quite a bit taller than me... so I'd have no choice! ;o)
I do adore her products and the brand that she's created. I think that she's an extremely savvy woman who has surrounded herself with a very strong and creative team. I don't think anyone can deny the impact that she's had on reviving almost all things handcrafted and homemade, at least in the mainstream.
As for her stint in the slammer, according to the federal government, she's served her due time for what she did. Personally, I know I'm in no moral place to hold her in contempt or deny her of the grace and mercy that I myself receive daily. If anything, I respect her for being able to overcome that dark spot in her life, not allowing it to define her. That's my take on it, at least.

I've been surprised how many people I've heard over the years say that their goal is to be the next "Martha Stewart"! Or that Martha is one of their heroes.
She really is an inspiration to so many people! I guess it's been a surprise to me, since I'm not into crafting or DIY. So I thought I'd check in on the boards.
Do you look up to Martha? What's your favorite thing about Martha Stewart?
