How do you typically prepare it? Do have a certain recipe you use or a trusted box mix you prefer with or without adaptations?

Yes! Definitely my biggest comfort food!

    Here's what I do:

    1 box of macaroni noodles

1 can of cream of mushroom soup

    2 teaspoons butter

    Splash of milk

Several cups of sharp white cheddar cheese

Basically I box the noodles and then stir the rest in! I don't know exactly the measurements I use but it was how my momma always made it and it's delicious!

I love it, all of it.  I love my fiance's aunt's macaroni.  I also love Velveeta and sometimes I'm in the mood for Kraft.  I love it homemade too, with broccoli, bacon, different cheeses, bread crumbs, all of it.  (I do realize this sounds obsessive but we actually asked to add macaroni to our wedding menu for a little bit extra)

My husband makes his own mac n cheese that I love.  He makes a cheese cream sauce with fontina, gruyere, an English cheddar, and parmesan cheeses.  He puts bacon and a little Frank's hot sauce (not much though) in it as well.  And he tops it with panko bread crumbs for a crunch.

i most definitely dig the mac :) especially with chili. a can of vegetarian chili is good, that way it's not completely unhealthy..

We love it!  We've honed our recipe through the years and if the baby lets me get downstairs, I'll grab it to share later on!

I love M&C, but am too inept to make it.  I swear by Trader Joe's frozen mac and cheese.  It is delicious!  To make it even better I like to top it with some bread crumbs before baking it.

My mom makes AMAZING mac n cheese. I don't know the exact recipe (reminds me, I need to get it!) but I know it involves macaroni noodles (obvi), tomato soup and lots of cheese. She also builds it by doing mac - cheese - mac - cheese layers. MMMM

Has anyone had the mac n cheese from the Yardhouse? I'm not sure if that's a national chain or not. But it's SO good! I've only made good mac n cheese once but it's hard to not make it grainy... I can always go for some Easy Mac though! :D

there's a local grocery chain where i grew up and they sold their own brand name boxed mac & cheese. everyone thinks i'm crazy but i can tell it apart from kraft and other boxed mac and cheeses and i loooove it. it just screams childhood to me. i like it better than homemade even.

I am a little obsessed with mac and cheese but rarely make it from scratch.  My favorite is Amy's Organic mac and cheese - such creamy goodness!

I'm not a big fan of the boxed versions (except for Velveeta shells n cheese - you're right, JenniMichele, yummy!), but I swear my kids could eat it 24/7.  I tried out one of Paula Deen's recipes for my daughter's bday, and it was amazing.  I can't remember the exact recipe, but it calls for a can of cheddar cheese soup.  Google it and make it, you won't be sorry!

Now I have to try to get excited over my dinner of leftovers, thanks a lot, lol!

My sister makes box mac and cheese with extra butter and milk which tastes a hundred times better than the regular directions. I'll have to get the recipe from her but she makes a wonderful scratch recipe that uses cheese soup and grated cheddar that is baked in the oven and so creamy and yummy.

I absolutely LOVE mac and cheese! I haven't made it for sooo long. I usually make a white sauce and then add tons of old cheddar. Then I crumble cracker crumbs on top!

for anyone who lives in the LA-area, you should definitely go to the world market food truck (i believe it is parked in santa monica on main street for lunch most days) and try their truffle mac and cheese balls. they are little bites of heaven. i'm drooling just thinking about them. i so wish i didn't live on the other side of the country or i would seriously be driving to santa monica right now.

I LOVE the mac & cheese from the Whole Foods hot food bar.  I've already had it once this week, but I now might need to go again tonight.

I love mac n cheese and always have. But I am lame and only make the boxed kinds. But I think I might have to try some fancier recipes! Like Paula Dean's, that woman is awesome!

I LOVE mac and cheese.  I will sometimes stick with the tried and true KD, but there is a recipe from a Disney cookbook I use that is SO delicious - it is the recipe for the mac and cheese they actually make in the parks at some of the restaurants.  Why is it so delicious?  It uses more cheese than a person should eat in several weeks, but man is it tasty!

Yep ... I make a version of it that starts with a bernaise style sauce with tons of sharp white cheddar mixed in, I use the extra large sized macaroni noodles, and stir in grilled sliced chicken apple sausage, top with cheese and bread crumbs and bake until crispy and browned on top, with bubbly cheese ...

In a pinch I also like the kraft dinner spirals and egg noodles.

Looooove it. We actually had it on our wedding menu.

I don't ever make it though, because my husband says there's not really a way to make it "healthy." Haha. Sad, sad day.

@Smashley, it's not intended to be healthy. The pasta is the worst for anyone since no one needs that quantity of carbs. The cheese is actually good for you. But it is ok to eat something "bad" once in awhile and even doctors agree on that.

I love Mac n Cheese and the funny thing is I never ate it growing up. The only time I've ever been dissapointed with Mac n Cheese was using Bobby Flay's recipe. We spent over $30 on a variety of fancy cheeses and the boxed kind still tasted better. I think Velveeta makes the best recipe.

I actually have a cookbook of only Mac & Cheese recipes.

Has anyone tried the new Kraft Mac & Cheese in the bag?  I think you actually bake it.

To make my mac & cheese even unhealthier than it could already be, I occassionally top it with French's Fried Onions Tongue out

My Own personal recipe for mac n cheese

    Ingredients -

    1 box macaroni

    1/3 cup flour

    1 stick butter

1/2 tspn of salt and pepper

    2 cups of mild cheddar

    1 cup of pepper jack

2 cups of mixed cheese (not sure but I think Kraft has a cheddar/american blend)

    1/2 cup cheddar for top

    Directions:

    -Cook macaroni as directed.

-In a pot melt butter and whisk in flour, make sure you have your milk measured out before you do this

    - Add milk, salt, pepper and cheese.

    - Cook until thick and bubbly on a medium low heat

    - Mix macaroni and cheese mixture together then pour into a 13x9" pan and top with cheese.

    - Bake at 350 until cheese is melted and lightly brown.

We love Mac and Cheese too :) just last Friday I made us homemade mac and cheese and chicken nuggets - true testament of a too-long week ending, haha.

I usually just shred whatever cheese is in the house, melt some butter and add milk until it's the right consistency.
