Do you ovulate after a missed period?

I’ve been reading up on it a bit as we started TTC this month as well (but someone correct me if I’m wrong). I don’t think you’ll ovulate before AF comes. Did you recently stop BC? It can take several months before AF comes and you wouldn’t ovulate during those months. I’ve heard many cases of people not ovulating or getting a period until 6 months after stopping BC (idk if that’s what you did, just saying) but I also read to talk to your doctor if you don’t get one within 3 months, but shorter than that is normal. Temping would be the best way to track if you do ovulate during that time.

Im no expert so take what i say with a grain of salt but my understanding is you dont miss periods, it ends up just being a longer cycle. I have had cycles that went for 70 or more days, then ive also had some that only lasted 20. I have ovulated at day 50 even. Is it your first month off the pill? I have pcos so i think thats why i was so irregular because i didnt always ovulate.

Perhaps you haven’t ovulated yet and you’re having a super long cycle?

hollyberry4:  That is very weird! It must just be a super long cycle with unfortunate timing! I’ve read some bees charts who had 50+ day cycles just out of nowhere, I think one was like 80 days! I’d go crazy! Hoping for AF soon, I’d just keep temping and testing. Good luck!

hollyberry4:  Thats really annoying! Its funny when your ttc if you dont get your bfp you actually WANT your period so you can move on to the next cycle and try again. Unfortunately our bodies just do what they want. Good luck though!

Everything goes crazy when you’re ttc, right?!

From what I’ve learned, a “missed” period I’d actually a very very delayed ovulation. So, if you get super stressed a few days before you ovulate, your body might put a hold on things for a few days and then your real ovulation will happen within a week or so, with the rest of the cycle coming in as it should based on that later O date.

With a missed period, your body goes into major hold-up-cowboy mode and puts off ovulation for a couple weeks. Could be stress, could be regulating hormones from bc, whatever. Regardless, it’s the second “O” that counts, and then, in a perfect world your period will follow in 10-15 days.  It’s all technically a single cycle. However, if you aren’t charting to know what’s happening, it looks like you skipped a period.

Supposedly it happens to every girl at least once. I’m miss regular And predictable and I skipped once in college for no reason whatsoever :P.  Better luck next month!

hollyberry4:  sounds like you had an annovulatory cycle.  I’ve had a few of those after coming off BCP. I did get some very light spotting and then eventually ovulated. It sucks because you have no idea what cycle day you’re on or when you’re going to ovulate or when AF is due.  I’m sorry youre going through this – especially during your first cycle TTC!
