I would love a hybrid, because I also have a 25 mile commute, but where I live, there is snow and hills.  Hybrids don’t do well with either.  You need all wheel drive or four wheel drive.  I’ve considered a serial hybrid that comes with AWD or 4WD (Priuses are parallel), but I can’t really afford those.

I just say this because your wedding location is in New England and if you live there, I imagine it snows.

We just did and I love it!  They make different hybrids so ask a bunch of questions.  Some have better mileage for town driving and some are better on the interstate.  Make sure you ask!

ETA:  We have a 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid

My FI and I have a 2004 Pruis and we love it!!  I highly recommend it!  I commute 50 miles per day, and we save SO MUCH on gas because of it!

@AstoriaK:  We went through Carmax, so it was just the one we ended up purchasing.  We weren’t techincally on the hunt for a hybrid but after discussing, we’d save the cost difference on gas in 2 years and the resell value will always be higher than a traditional car. PERSONALLY, we weren’t huge fans of the look of a Prius and loved the Honda.  We didn’t even test drive the Prius

Nope! As far as I’m concerned gas prices don’t warrant the extra cost in buying most of them, unless you’re looking at a very small car. Look up price vs. mileage comparisons online; most hybrid versions take until 250k km to start paying for themselves, from what I’ve seen.

@AstoriaK:  Yeah, it was the backend for us, too.  Keep me posted!

@Peacockfeather:  +1  I think the hybrid fad is a bit silly. Sure, it’s awesome that you get better mileage.  But you aren’t actually saving money for so many miles, that at that point, you probably won’t even still have the car.

@Peacockfeather:  Kinda disagree.  We got ours about a month ago and have only filled up once.  It all depends on what you drove before and what you drive daily.  If you drive it correctly, you can really save.

EDIT:  Previous post makes a good point…if you trade in quite often it may not be worth it.  We drive cars til they total themselves!

@Mars62312:  Her point is that you do not end up even coming out even for a very long time.
