Yeah, it’s random and maybe TMI, but I’m curious about the modern woman’s feelings on this. In TV and movies it’s totally okay for guys to pass gas all over the place, but we still rarely see women do it. Do you still consider it unladylike? Is it funny? Or is it just not something that you do? For those that do is it something that you’ve always felt comfortable doing or it took awhile?

I have very strong feelings about this and have always made a point to get comfortable about passing gas in front of dudes. BUT, would you believe it has never come up between my FH and I? We’re LD and even when we’re together, I just never feel the urge! He farted in his sleep one time and I couldn’t wait to tell him when he woke up the next morning, lol.

We try not to do stuff like this in front of each other. You wouldn’t do that in front of your friends and coworkers, why do it in front of the person you love and respect the most?
(In case anyone was wondering, we’ve been together for 6+ years )

Usually only if I know he’s sleeping/won’t hear. Occasionally one will slip out in front of him accidentally. He’s always begging me to fart in front of him. He does it in front of me ALL the time. I think it’s funny 🙂

@luluvohn: haha, yep! I try not to do it loudly. But sometimes, it doesn’t always end up being quiet! In that case, I will look around and say ‘did you hear that? What was that?’. He just laughs and says ‘better out than in!’. He passes wind all the time and we laugh about it! We’ve been together for 6 years, so we are pretty comfortable with that.

@AlwaysSunny: See, my college girlfriends and I did it all the time. It was never a big deal. We thought it was hilarious, just *pfft* here and *pfft* there. One of the girls could burp sentences and we’d stay up all night laughing about it. Now, granted, this was in college and we were not exactly the most mature people.

I try not to but it has happened, it was out before I could help it. I was sooooo embarassed and apologized profusely, but he laughed and said something like “Hey, you’re human. Newsflash, I fart too!” He’s my hero 🙂

We try not to do that stuff in front of each other, I just don’t feel like it’s appropriate if you can control it. If it just happens, not much you can do about it. I never found burping and passing gas as a funny thing.

There are two (very clear) types when it comes to this issue. Those who find farts funny and those who don’t. Someone who finds them gross, un-lady like, whatever is not for me. I would go so far as to say it’s a deal breaker. I have to live with you for the rest of my life, sometimes 24/7 if we are on vacation. It’s not humanly possible to be discreet for that many hours in a lifetime. Plus I find it hilarious (I find lots of dumb shit hilarious though) So it’s obvious what side I’m on 😉

@luluvohn: Really? I’ve heard my friends fart accidentally (and we laughed about it) but never on purpose.
I have to agree with FauxBoho, people fall into one of two camps here. In my family we never farted in front of each other. But it’s not that I think it’s “un-lady like” or gross, I just consider it more polite to *try* not stink up the place.

Yes if I think I can be discreet… he does it all the time but I’m still shy to this day. If I have any inkling it might detectible I go to the bathroom. But I’m an IBSer, if I locked myself in the bathroom every time I had even a little gas, I’d never leave haha.

I have if I can be discreet…and there have been a couple of occassions where it accidentally comes out. For some reason I just don’t like farting in front of him! He farts in front of me constantly and will sometimes use his farts as punctuation. It’s…wonderful.

This is so annoying because he thinks it’s funny when he passes gas and does it all the time (especially after certain food). However, if he happens to hear me gas he gets all grossed out. I try to make it a point to keep it quiet and I don’t laugh but I don’t like just holding it in (stomach ache!!). His are loud and smelly and mine are usually very quiet and you can rarely smell anything (ladly like lol).
Gosh… sorry for the TMI!

I try really hard not to! It has nothing to do with my FI, he couldn’t care less and would definitely not make a comment about it being “unladylike” or anything sexist like that (he knows better). I just prefer to keep my own stuff in the bathroom I guess.
FI was sitting on the leather couch last night after dinner, and when he farted the noise was so loud that he literally scared himself! I was crying I was laughing so hard, haha.
