Do you pay your bills ahead of time?

I pay in advance. I have some bills I pay with the 1st paycheck of the month, and some with the 2nd.  At any given time I’m usually paid a full month in advance.

@Ninteenthchance:  No. I pay bills when they are due. Since I pay online, I set it up for 3 business days before the bill is actually due. I prefer to keep my money in my account for as long as possible and earn interest on it. If something is due on the 27th, I am not about to pay it on the 1st.

The only time I do that is if I used my credit card. I normally pay them before they send a bill. I have a lot of my monthly bills automated.

I usually pay my credit card bills ahead of time – I just pay them whenever I think about it, sometimes more than once a month (I am currently trying to eliminiate all of my very minimal credit card debt). I usually wait until the due date to pay our other bills, but sometimes I do forget, as NONE of my bills are due on the same day and it’s so annoying to keep track.

@MrsPanda99:  +1 This is pretty much what I do as well, everything is set up to pay just before it’s due.

@TwoCityBride:  And see, I use my credit card for everything even if it is just $1. We earn serious points with our card and it is all stuff we would have to buy anyway. We never carry a balance and always pay our bill when it is due. However, you might as well earn rewards for money you have to spend anyway!

@Ninteenthchance:  I do what the above ladies do too. Don’t let go of liquid assets ahead of when needed unless you simply cannot hold onto surplus (e.g., it burns a hole in your pocket and you gamble it away or something). It doesn’t help your credit score anyways.

Stay liquid my friends.

I tend to pay them the week they come in the mail (or for my cell phone, when I get a text notification). I probably should get a set system going, but it works for now.

That reminds me – our rent is due today.

Our first pay check we put money into our joint account for the bills for the month. Most of them are automatically taken off the credit card. But we have the money to pay them off in the account at the beginning of the month.

I usually pay them as soon as I get them so I don’t forget!

Ours are almost all setup to pay automatically.
