Yes they need envelopes! What size pocketfold are you looking at? There are invitations called "envelopments"; they do not require envelopes.
People usually use envelopes with pocket folds! Otherwise you run the risk of things falling out... not fun.

It seems risky to send them without an envelope. I'm looking for them online and I'm finding that some sites don't carry envelopes to match the size of their pocketfolds. It makes me think that people don't really use envelopes??
