So we’re pretty much in the initial stages of planning, i’ve never been married before so i’ve kinda been thrusted into the wonderful world of wedding planning which has been overwhelming when i see all the things needed to ‘make’ a wedding.
Truth be told it makes me want to run to the nearest wedding coordinator and just tell her to ‘take care of it’ but after going over our budget (somewhere under 20k now) i wonder if having a planner is a necessity?
I’m starting to doubt my confidence in planning this myself. but surely it can be done right? this is where i ask you lovely bees to assure me that this isnt rocket science and cheer me on that i CAN do this! or can I?
Im looking over the pros and cons of getting a planner and im just not sure. I also have a bit of a control issue, handing over my dream to some one requires alot of trust that they wont screw it up, Did You Have a Planner? or was it a DIY

We didn’t use a wedding planner because I couldn’t justify the expense. It went fine!

I planned our wedding entirely on my own and had a freakin’ ball doing it. Then again, I’ve always been a planner and I sincerely hope to make it my career someday. I don’t think that a full fledged wedding planner is totally necessary for an average wedding but I do think that a DOC is something that everyone should atleast consider. We had one and it was one of the best decisions I made.

I think a lot of people plan their wedding without a planner -so yes it can be done! Actually most people I know didn’t have a planner and it turned out very well.
That being said though, about mid-way through our own wedding planning, we made the decision to get a wedding planner. I was starting to feel overwelmed with the research, and feeling insecure about booking and spending money on vendors I didn’t know. I’m also the type of person who gets anxious when there are too many big decisions, especially when so much money is involved. We don’t have ginormous budget, but we decided that the extra help from the planner would bring us peace of mind, and that was worth the $ to us.
Since we hired her, decisions are so much easier. She’s experienced and is finding good vendors, within our budget, and I don’t have to do all the research. She’ll also be there the day of to help coordinate everything. I love my planner! I wish I had hired her from the beginning.

I have a planner and even though I do it is still a lot of work. The things that were great about it is that she supplies all decorations (has a wearhouse full). Coordinates all the vendors, RSVP’s, Set up ad breakdown. Discounts from vendors she uses. Invitation designers etc. The one I used is a family friend so she gave us a great break on her usual fee otherwise I couldn’t have hired her. But it really is not necessary to hire one. It just depends how much work your willing to put in. Also some planners do not do all the things I listed above so it just depends on the planner. I am glad I hired her, but if she offered less or was more expensive I probably wouldn’t have.
