My main exercise is kickboxing and boxing, which requires me to wrap my hands and wear boxing sparring gloves. Does anyone else here do a similar exercise or take off their rings for any other reason? How easily can they be damaged? I have it insured but it is special to me and I wouldn’t want it to be damaged.
Also, do you take it off to shower and/or sleep as well?

For kickboxing and boxing, I would DEFINITELY take my ring off. Not only to prevent it from getting damaged, but to protect my hand.

ellie17: I only take mine off when I put lotion on my hands because I don’t want it getting on my rings. (And sometimes when AF visits and puffs me up like a blowfish…)

If/when I work out, I dont take it off since I use the weight machines and they have padded grips. I dont take it off for shower, sleep, or anything really. Maybe garden work if I know my hands are gonna be in the dirt and all. And if I’m cooking and it involves my hand in the food like meatballs or something.

ellie17: I take mine off for just about anything that will increase the risk of losing the diamond and/or harming my finger.
So heavy lifting, sleeping, dirty work, working out, and going to the beach are all things that I do ring-less.

I take mine off quite often actually. Exercise, showers, cleaning the house, working in the yard, sleeping…..when I get home, the first thing I do is take off my rings to give my fingers a rest. If I go back out at all (even the grocery store or for an errand), I put them back on. I like to take my rings off when I wash my hands at home but don’t do this much in public (don’t want to lose the rings). Despite taking my rings off frequently, my fingers still feel naked without them haha!!

When I exercise I leave it on but I do mainly cardio and weights with padded grips. If I was kickboxing/boxing or had to wrap my hands for anything I would take it off.

I take mine off when I go to the gym, taking a shower, going to bed (my finger tends to do a lot of swelling), cooking and cleaning… basically- I only have mine on when I leave the house. I am paranoid I will break it as it is an heirloom piece and irreplaceable. =o) I’m also paranoid. LOL.

MKWeddingBee: I know what you mean. I hate not having any ring on. I may just use a simple wedding band as a stand-in.

ellie17: I would take it off for kickboxing or boxing for sure, just because I wouldn’t want to hurt myself by banging my hand with it. Other than that, I only go on the treadmill or lift weights, so I keep it on. I’ve lost a bit of weight, so I notice it slips around a lot more lately, so I’ll eventually stop wearing it to the gym. I don’t want it flying off while I’m trotting on the treadmill.
I used to take it off all the time: to sleep, to shower, to wash my hands, etc. Eventually, my laziness overpowered my fear of ruining my ring, I said eff it, and now I wear it all the time. So far so good.

I take it off at night (and don’t put it back on until after I’ve showered) and for roller derby training – some of th girls wear theirs but it’s not a risk I’m comfortable taking.

I take it off all the time. I do crossfit, so it would get in the way of a lot of the stuff I do there. I also take it off in the shower/bath, when cleaning, to wash my hands, and when doing crafty-type things (sewing, cross-stitch, etc.) just because I feel like it gets in the way. I’ve never been much of a jewlery person, though, and have literally never worn a ring before so I’ve had to really adjust to wearing it at all in the first place.

Here’s a warning tale for everyone…we have an older style trash can in the kitchen – it’s metal with a swinging door that you have to push in to throw anything out. Well last week I went to throw something away and the door closed on the top part of my ring as my center stone is set somewhat high. I pulled my hand as the door shut and basically everything that could’ve gone wrong did…and my ring twisted and bent! Needless to say, you can’t protect your ring from everything since there is no way I could’ve fathomed this could happen – but it doesn’t hurt to protect it when you KNOW you are doing something that could damage it. Let me tell you…paying for a repair when you aren’t even married yet sucks!!!

every exercise except when i’m power walking. but strength training, weight training, yeah. i also tkae off my ring whenever i wash my hands or hand sanitize.

ellie17: I take my ring off when I exercise so I don’t catch it on anything and because my fingers puff up when I exercise, no matter how much water I drink. I also remove it when I shower and sleep.
