So I sent my deposit check to my photographer about 2 weeks ago, she hasn’t cashed it yet.
Well, this past weekend, my car died, and since I had the $ sitting in my bank account, I used it to get my car fixed.
Now I don’t have any money for the photographers deposit until I get paid again on Thursday.
I emailed the photographer and explained to her what happened, and that the money will be in my account on Thursday and I asked her if she could wait until then to deposit it.
Do you think she’ll drop us for this? I feel so embarrassed and I apologized profusely in my email. 🙁
Now I’m just sitting here worried like crazy because she was the only photographer that I found that would work within our budget. I hope she doesn’t decide to not work with us.

If she hasnt cashed it yet then I dont think she is in a hurry for the money. It is a pretty understandable situtation. 🙂

I think you’ll be okay. Try to stay calm and just wait for her response.

If your date is a real indication of when your wedding is, I’m SURE this will be fine. I think this is good and early to make any kind of payment to her, so I highly doubt she would drop you. But sending good vibes just in case!

@carnivaltheme: Yeah, our wedding really is next May, 2014. 🙂 I live in CA right now but we’re having the wedding in my hometown in NY, which is where our photographer is located. It’s been so hard planning things 3,000 miles away.

@LPitty: I live in CA, but she (and our wedding) is in NY. So I could see how the check could take maybe 4-5 days to get to her, physically. But yeah, she still hasn’t cashed it yet. I’m hoping she understands

Id be ok with it as long as you let me know whats going on so I dont bounce. Dont worry just keep them up to date.
However, is SOOOOOOO annoying when people hang on to checks like that! lol My landlord does it and I cant freakin’ stand it!

she should understated ! It’s her fault for taking so long to process the check anyway!

Hopefully she said it was okay.
But did you consider that she may have already cashed the check and it just hadn’t cleared your account yet? My bank takes 3 days for checks to clear. Two weeks when sending across country isnt unreasonable. If the check bounces her bank will charge her and your bank will charge you. You’d be responsible for that. Plus if it bounced and caused her to overdraft, that will really be a nightmare for her. I’ve been on the receiving end of that and it takes about 2 weeks before you even find out. Most banks will show the money in your account but it’s actually pending. Then when it doesn’t clear, they take it out, hit you with a fee for the check and an NSF fee for every charge that is now overdrawn.

Oh I’m so GUILTY of hanging on to checks. We have a 3 payment plan system to make it easier for brides, so I get SO many checks, I really have to wait until I have a pile of them to take a trip to the bank, or I’d be going every day!
