So I'm doing these favors that mean a lot to me and FH (personalized Scrabble favor for each guest) and I realize that they may not mean much to everyone in attendance. I'm wondering if I should even bother to waste the time and raw material.

So I ask you Bees, what do you do with wedding favors?

I'll be honest, it really depends on what it is. I see a lot of favors on the Bee, SMP, etc that I'd snatch up in a heartbeat. But the real favors I've gotten (a teeny tiny vase that can fit one fake flower, and two tiny beach themed picture frames) have not been my thang, and I've pitched them.

I don't usually even take them, unless it's a cookie or something.  I especially don't want something with somebody else's name on it...

We are doing a different version of these:

Do you throw away favors? : wedding 11

Each guest will get one with their name on it.

Would those double as your escort cards?  If they do double duty and they're inexpensive, then go for it.  However, I'll be honest and say I'd probably end up throwing those away once I got them home... I don't see a real use for them in a person's house.

@ddubzz They are doing double duty as place cards.

In my pretend world where everyone is like me, they'd be like something you put on your desk at work. :) I'm weird though.

I think it's cute.  I'd keep it even though I'm not a scrabble fan.  Too be honest though, I've never been to a wedding (that I can remember) that had favors to take home, it's always been something edible.

I would definitely keep that....I must live in that pretend world too! We're doing an edible (errrr...drinkable) favor, which is my favorite kind. I think yours are very unique (I really like them!) and the guests will like them because they will have their own names on it, but I agree, some of the typical favors are dinky and I end up throwing them away.

Honestly, all the weddings I have attended have had edible favors so it hasn't been an issue. I just don't see the point of other favors.

To be perfectly honest, many people just waste their money. My BF did ornaments for her Dec. wedding. They went on my tree... other than that I eat the edible ones. :)

I think they're cute, and since they double as your escort cards, I think it's definitely worth it, but to be honest, I wouldn't keep it. Maybe for a little while. Then it would end up in either a box in the closet or the trash.

It's not a matter of not liking something though - I am just not a 'stuff' person. I don't keep any knick knacks around if I can help it, I don't have figurines (except the one that FMIL gave J and I as a congrats-you're-engaged gift, which was lovely of her, but if she keeps giving me more [she herself has dozens], I don't honestly know what to do with them) or frames that sit on things (wall frames yes, desk frames no), or little stuffed animals or wind up toys littering the edges of my desk or the shelves of my home.

I think a lot of people go edible because it's impossible to find one 'lasting' item that will actually match the style and decor of 200+ people. :)

I have only ever encountered edible favors.  However, if it was something useful I would keep it.  Ejoyb: I love the scrabble plaque.  I would definitely put it on my desk.

I am a bad guest--Guilty of throwing away the favor. Most of my friends had something edible. My friend gave away t-shirts and the FI and I wore our matching shirts the next day everywhere we went. (totally making fun of the idea. Looking back probably not that nice)

The one non-edible favour that I took home consisted of two different sized heart shaped cookie cutters. And I've used them many times!

One time the favours were all little bags of lego, that everyone opened after dinner and then used at their table to create the best structure possible. Then the bride and groom judged them and gave out prizes. It was fun, but I don't think anyone took the lego home afterward. Then again, there's always a kid somewhere that you can give it to, so I'm sure it didn't go to waste!

Not sure what I'd do with the Scrabble things - we have a more formal work environment so it's a no go for my desk.  Very cute idea as a placecard though.

I voted for eating the favor, but that was before I saw your favors.

I love Scrabble.  Personally, I'd love a favor like that.  But some posters are right... not everyone likes Scrabble.  But it's your wedding, and you should give a gift that's meaningful to you.

Besides, it's personalized, and people might be more inclined to keep something that's personalized.

The only (non-edible) favor I've gotten that didn't end up in the trash was a little ceramic tile magnet with the couple's names and date on it. I needed fridge magnets, so I kept it. Sorry :/

I usually take home favors because I know the bride and groom spent money on it. But after a month or so, they end up in my trash. I don't like dust collectors.

I like the idea, I would keep it and put in my study, because I know ppl at work would take it and put it on there desk and it would be a running joke!

Ive had wedding favours that well...i put in the bin, seed packets, magnets. My FH really likes the idea of favors so were doing them anyway. Mini playing cards, because I debated that it could be a useful gift and cheap.

I didn't select any of your options because I generally don't pick up favors.  I think it's a very cute escort card favor, but I just can't imagine them being used after the wedding day.  I might put it at my desk, but it gets so messy with paperwork, that I try to limit the knick knacks I put on it.  Sorry!

I do think it's a cute idea though, and if it makes you happy and it's what you want to do, go for it.

Honestly, yes I always throw them away, and I've seen tons left over from people who don't even bother to take them. I usually take mine home and I throw it away in the next couple of days. The only exception was a wedding where the favors were shotglasses...I stuck the shotglass in one of my cabinets and forgot about it for 2 years. When I found it, I threw it away because I didn't want a shotglass with someone's wedding date on it. Those Scrabble favors sound cute...I would probably put it on my desk at work if I remembered to bring it.

I think your favors are adorable and I would definitely keep mine (I love scrabble). That being said: one of Mr.TKE's friends got married and had a Las Vegas themed reception because that's where they got engaged (read: there parents are wealthy). At EVERY place setting there was: a deck of cards, a shot glass, a tin with chocolates in it, a set of magnetic playing cards, and a postcard. All of these items were personalized down to the m&ms and bottom of the Hershey's kisses. I personally thought it was a bit extreme! Oh and the shot glasses had butter mints in them. Mr.TKE is like oh, let's take everything! So, we have 2 of everything on the table. And so will anyone else if they live with the person they went to the wedding with and took everything home with them.

I'm a bit of a packrat, but I can usually find an excuse to get rid of knick knacks I don't need. I'd be more likely to keep edible favours(at least long enough for munchies!), or ones that I can use on a regular basis - like a wine stopper, magnets, pens, etc.

The scrabble pieces are really cute! I think it's a great idea for an escort card, but I don't think it would even cross my mind to take it home with me.

i always eat the edible favors!!  if its a "knick knack" kinda favor i'll take it home, but honestly....i usually pitch it. (Unless its really really really cool and useful) A picture frame with a miniature wedding cake and champagne glasses with my name on it would probably get tossed for example. ;)

i do like your scrabble favor though and i'd def take it... it might end up on my desk at work or something!

I would probably keep the scrabble board out of guilt, honestly. I hate throwing things away but while it's TOTALLY cute, I would be kinda "what do I do with this?!" about it. It's adorable, though!

I don't think we're doing favors at all. It's hard to find something 200 people would like!

unless its edible (and im not allergic) it gets tossed into the trash the moment i get home.

i usually take it just to make the bride feel better because i know they spent money on it, but i really dont see the point of favors.

the placecard idea is cute and i love it, but i dont see much use for it past placecards.... they would definately get lost on my desk at work.

I'll eat the edible favors! The only non edible favors we have kept are wine stoppers, which would be better if we drank more wine.  We're going with edible favors.

That's really cute. I've mostly gotten food favors at weddings. One favor that I've loved and have used again and again since the wedding last june was a bookmark. I LOVED IT! I even gave my mom my fiance's (he's not an avid reader and really wasn't interested in a silver heart shaped bookmark). If I had a desk at work I'd put it on there. I might even set it on a knick knack shelf for a year or two, but I'm not one to throw things away immediately if I can find a use for it. yes I'm a big ole pack rat. If I had a personal desk in my home I'd even put it there. I'm sure I could think of somthing- maybe a shadow box where I'd put a picture of FI & me and I'd put our names in the box. Just a guess. I'm sure if people put their minds to it, that they could use it. However some people won't so yea some will be tossed or left on the table, so don't be disappointed if that happens.

I really only like edible favors (which we are doing) because I don't ever seem to find a use for anything else. While I appreciate all favors, I will probably throw it out when I get home if it's not edible. Cute idea though! I love it!

Thats a cute idea! I'd probably keep something like that. However, more often than not I end up throwing favors away unless they're edible. I'm not a huge fan of trinkets/clutter.

This is such a guilty confession of mine- I've thrown away every favor I've ever gotten... unless it was candy/chocolate/cookies.  I feel so bad saying that!  But, I've gotten some pretty impractical or tacky ones so what do they expect from me?  I recently went to a shower and the favor was a lil notebook with the brides name ALL over it.  Uh, I don't want that.  The notebook part was great, but if that's not my name, why would I want to keep it?  I've also gotten a thousand coasters... we don't have enough glasses to put on all those coasters.  I throw them ALL out.  If anything, I'd keep a favor if it was 1. practical and 2. not personalized.

Eat or chuck. Luckily every wedding i've been to has been edible goodies (like coffee!!!!) or chocolates (please don't buy those stupid hershey kisses....at least buy gourmet/better chocolates!) which I give to DH to scarf on like he's 5.

@jennifer espos, I got a mini notebook and pen from a bridal shower and I stuck it in my car. It's kinda handy there!

I gave out limoncello and cookies at my bridal shower (ok the limoncello tasted like lemon vodka but still...) and our favors were probably 'useless' because they were measuring spoons but I think some people LOVED them (and used them--at least they told me so, lol) and some just chucked 'em.

If i could go back, I'd have spent my money on gourmet truffles or cookies or something gorgeous. But the spoons were only $1.39. I just really loathe the "5 hershey kisses tied up" because...ick. Cheap chocolate.

I would TOTALLY use cookie cutters though. =]

We sort of figured that the most well received favors are food related.. so we are having a dessert bar for people to grab from on their way out.  Cookies, biscotti, candy... hopefully eveyone will enjoy it.

It really depends on the favor. If it is edible and not the jordan almonds or wedding mints, I will eat them.  I think the only non-edible favor I have kept were the wine bottle corks that my friend had at their wedding. It was something very useful. I felt bad throwing away the favors from my in-law's wedding but what was I going to do with a glass slipper and a porcelain pumpkin carriage?

being on this board site has changed my mind from finding something people would use to realizing that edible favours are best (phew! thanks girls!)

not sure how i got caught looking at other ideas (trees, water bottles, etc) when before I was engaged I had decided to go for edible favours

sometimes the wedding planning madness can mess with my good sense
