yes. it's still a service rendered. even though tipping really is based on whether or not you personally want to, it would still be considered appropriate and in many cases, expected in the industry.
What about when the hair/mu artist owns her own business is the one rendering services?
So- do I tip in the check I write to the salon, or separately in cash?
oops, edit.
no, if the stylist owns the business or is doing it personally, it is not necessary since she will be getting 100% profit (besides any materials used).
I think even if the hair and makeup person owns their own business and renders the services, a tip is still customary. I think it used to be that you shouldn't tip an owner of a salon, but I've heard that's not the case anymore.
OK. So... let's say I didnt do this. I am going back for a hair re-trial. Over tip to compensate? what about for the make up artist? It honestly just didnt occur to me till I was leaving the place and had NO cash.
@KikiD: haha yeah, maybe mention it and overtip later. i would appreciate that if a client said that she forgot to tip and included it later...very much so!
I didn't have to tip because it's included in the final cost on the wedding day but I ended up tipping for the hair trial and they just deducted the amount from the total amount due.
Nope I just gave a really good tip the day of the wedding to kinda make up for both I guess.
It honestly never occured to me to tip for the trial. I paid by credit card which was the deposit for the wedding day/payment for the trial. My mom tipped her well morning of so I guess I'm covered. Also shes the owner.
I did tip -- well -- because I was late for my trials and they accomodated me anyway. I think I would have tipped regardless. I always tip for personal services, just habit I guess.
I agree with the no tip for trial and over tip on the day of...

I am obviously tipping for when I get my hair and make-up done the day of my wedding. However, do I need to tip for the (extrodinarily overpriced, IMO) hair trials? My artists are employees of a small wedding based beuty salon- not the owner. Thanks.
