Have you used the site to search for jobs and has it been helpful? Did you actually get a job via LinkedIn?
Or do you use it mainly to network? What do you use it for?
I have a LinkedIn account and right now, I’m searching for jobs on the site. I’m just curious if anyone has found a job via this website.

@LadyBlackheart: Absolutely to all of your questions! Best tool out there in my opinion.

I’ve never gotten a job through linkedin, but I use it for networking all the time. I have a lot of friends that got jobs using linkedin, also. It’s a great way to connect with industry folks and ask them questions if you need to! 🙂

I’ve never gotten a job through a LinkedIn posting, but it’s been invaluable for networking, and as a place potential employers can come to check out my experience and connections.

@LadyBlackheart: i use it to network! and in case i am ever in the market for a new job… my FI works for a regional bank and his boss loves to find people and “recruit” them based on their linkedin page hahah

Never got a job through it, but I have had several headhunters contact me as a result (turned down the interview opportunity).
It is a good place for keeping in touch with older coworkers, networking and job searching.
I also like it to keep an ear to the ground on what new jobs are opening up in my field. Always good to be aware.

I have LinkedIn, but I will be honest I rarely actually “use” it. I have tried to be careful thus far about who I add but at the same time I feel bad being like “eehhh noooo” if it’s someone I know!
I did try searching for jobs on there but I didn’t have too much luck. But that’s just me, and really just one period of “searching.” I think overall it is a valuable tool you should have!

I’ll go against the grain here, and say I hate LinkedIn. I am on there, but had to hide all of my information. I was getting harassed by headhunters weekly. They were calling me on my work number, and just wouldn’t give up. I am not looking for a new job, and indicated that, but still had the headhunters contact me. When its time to move on, I will re-display all of my information, but until then, nope.

@coffeegal85: I’ve never been contacted by headhunters! Hmm, maybe I need to fill out my profile more.
I’m not very happy with my current job and I would love to find a similar job that pays MUCH better. Sigh.

They spammed me with too many emails so I rage-quit. True story.

I never used it, but I was just a preschool teacher!
But my DH, who works middle-management at a super-major insurance company, CONSTANTLY uses his for networking! He’s been head-hunted twice, but mostly he uses it to keep in contact with people in his own company who are cross-country!

@LadyBlackheart: I’m sorry. I wish I could send all of my headhunters to you.

I got my job by applying through LinkedIn!! Its my first job (starting my career, so not just a job) after college. I just graduated with my BA this year. I got a job as a Business Analyst, so not too shabby.
I also had a recruiter contact me about a job opportunity but I turned down the job offer for the job I have now.
I would really only use it for job hunting and now I use it to stay connected with previous co-workers or to connect with new people that I meet at conferences.

@coffeegal85: why did you put your work number on there in the first place?
i don’t have any phone numbers listed and so headhunters only contact me via email.

I did have one, but it pissed me off. I kept getting these awkward calls from recruiters. I would answer because it showed as an internal number (since they probably just called our main line and asked for me by name). So I deactivated mine.
