FI and I don’t really do formal dinners… most of our friends are pretty chill / casual people, so when we eat at our friends’ homes we always only see the dinner plate being used. At our home, I usually just end up using the salad plate as a dessert plate.
So I was just wondering… do people usually use the “salad plate” that comes with most dinnerware sets? Just wondering if most people actually use the salad plate on a day to day basis…

I use them for smaller snacks. I honestly probably use the dinner plates less…only at dinner!

I use salad plates for desserts and snacks…so quite often!

Yup! Another vote for dessert and snacks…and also small lunches.

I use them almost more than dinner plates! I use them a lot when I have a main course but then want my salad or soup in a bowl and don’t want to mess up a bigger plate. Or with dessert/snacks.

We use our smaller plates more than our larger ones! Dinner plates are too big for most foods, using the smaller plates helps eat a reasonable portion! If I were eating an actual salad, I’d actually use the dinner plate to have room to mix it around without it falling off the plate (big pet peeve, restaurants always serve salads falling out of a smaller bowl to make it look larger, but then it’s impossible to mix!)

Not day to day, but yes with my china. I always serve a first course and use the bread and butter plate for dessert since I never set that plate out.

I agree with prior posters. I use mine every day for smaller items/toast/bread/rolls. I rarely, if ever, use them for salads, though, because I prefer to eat my salads in a large, low, soup bowl. 🙂

Yep all the time. But never for salad. We eat 5 cups of salad each at dinner and it gets eaten out of a bowl. So when the rest of dinner is a small piece of meat and another veggie we often serve that on a salad plate so it doesn’t look so sad.
And for smaller snacks and desserts as well.

@BookishBelle: +1. Completely agree dinner plates are too big! We use salad plates more than dinner plates.

We use them all the time, and not just for salad.

Echoing other’s posts. We use them all the time. Dinner plates are way to huge most of the time.

We use ours every day, too. 🙂
