It doesn't really bother me much, but my FI is so picky about it - if I actually record something in regular-def (what's the technical term for that? lol) he won't enjoy the show nearly as much.
I can definitely see that it makes a difference, but it's not nearly as big of a deal to me as it is to him!
I personally don't mind watching a normal "low-def" tv but FI is a huge techy and insists on only the best. I will say that although I wasn't convinced in the whole High-def thing, I can really appreciate the difference when watching a movie...sports, not so much.
Agree... sports is the only thing that revolutionizes my life in High Def... I don't mind standard def for everything else. But now when I see sports in regular def it makes me sad.
We watch everything in HD. I work for Monster Cable, so we have the whole set up with really good HDMI cables. But sometimes I'll come out into our TV room to see my hubby watching sports on one of the regular channels, he doesn't even seem to notice until I "upgrade" him and switch over to the HD channels! Makes such a big difference to me, but mainly I like it cause it fills the whole TV screen (I hate the black bars on the sides of the screen in low def!).
We watch things in HD in the winter at my house, because the neighbour's tree blocks our HD signal when it's in leaf! LOL, my mom keeps telling my dad to chop it down. : P
We just got our first HDTV last week! We are loving it so far. It really does make more of a difference when watching sports, for some reason.
We have HD, too. And we don't even watch the channels that aren't in HD. I love watching things in HD, especially sports, it's fantastic!
I've found that I never even watch channels that aren't in hi-def in my area now - like Comedy Central. I'd watch it if it were in HD, but the difference actually gets on my nerves now.
In our area they just started offering Comedy Central in HD, but its on east coast time. The Daily Show just isn't the same at 8pm, so we still watch it in low def in our bedroom at 11pm.
we have a 10 year old tv with "low def" and are totally fine with it. Some days DH wishes we had an HDTV and PS3, but for us poor newlyweds (and DH in grad school) we're happy watching our netflix on the old TV :-)
We have HD. I notice a difference on some stuff, but my fiance's really picky about it, much like amanda.lynn's man :)
Nope, I'm glad that I don't know what I'm missing. Still using my 19" from college.
Both my FI and I have HD tv's. I work for a major cable company and have a 40 inch HD tv in my office so I just HAD to get a larger one for my home...LOL. It really does make a difference when watching sports and movies in HD. TLC and TNT are broadcast in HD and those are two of my favorite channels so I am happy =)
P.S. If you are watching an analog channel (generally 1-99), you can use the "zoom" key on your TV remote in order to have the picture fill your entire screen. I don't like the black bars either.
Yes, we have an HDTV in our bedroom, and I love it! Hopefully next year I'll be able to convince FI to get rid of the regular one (flat but not HDTV) in our living room. It really does make a big difference.
We are also "high-def" peoples! We have one downstairs and we really need one upstairs too! I love it because it's so crisp and clear!
I think its HD and SD (standard definition, FI makes commercials or I wouldn't know what this means).
We watch everything in HD. I was so happy when we got Bravo in HD because I never had to watch SD anymore because it was the last channel I watched a lot that hadn't switched. We watched everything so that the SD was stretched to fit the whole screen (helps keep the pixels from burning out I'm told) and I HATED that. Sports in HD are so much better! We get an MLB package because FI is a major braves fan and we probably wouldn't see them otherwise and that is the only time we get stuck watching things in SD. Hopefully our cable company will fix that soon because I hate it.
every single thing. it totally hoses up the DVR, but why have a big ol' tv blowing up a fuzzy gross picture?
What's "low def"? Seriously, High Def, HD, 1080, it's all worth it.
We have a huge 60" HDTV upstairs in the "man room" LOL. But that's the one room the dogs aren't allowed in (says FI) so I never go up there. And then because the dogs and I are always downstairs, FI ends up staying downstairs like 98% of the time. It's a very strange thing haha.
It is SO much better though, like pp's have said, esp. sports. When we were in our apt. and that was the TV we always used, FI would come home from work and I would be watching something in "low def" and he would like freak out! haha would change it to the high def channel and be like "are you crazy?" LOLOL. I mean yes, it looks better, but half the time I would never think to put it on there.
We watch a lot of sports and Discovery channel, so having the high Def is a big difference. On dish, the channels are right next to each other, but we hardly ever watch the non-HD channels anymore, even on the local channels.
Is there any other way? The only reason I watch comedy central in regular-def is that lack of DVR space.. otherwise, everything just looks better in HD!!
I definitely prefer Hi-Def though I do watch shows that dont come in Hi-Def and its not too big of a deal. Its definitely best to watch in Hi-Def for sports (especially hockey) but I watch all my network shows (ABC, CW, etc) in Hi def too
Our tv is 13 years old and is starting to go. I can't wait to buy a new tv, but since we are moving in the next few months, I hope ours lasts until then!
After watching HD... it's really hard to go back. Then again, after watching a 62" TV... it's really hard to go in the other room and watch a 32" screen.
I never thought I was missing out... but then lovely Mr. Lemon showed me the way to TV heaven and I haven't looked back.
I have good old SD. I'm sure that when FI and I get married, we'll end up with HD. As long has I have digital cable and DVR I'll be just as happy with or with out HD.

Bee and I have been watching TV on a 15 year old tv set for years... it's not only using CRT, but it's also tiny.
We finally we got a hi-def big screen this past year. This is my first World Series with hi def... wow, it really does make a difference! Normally though, I don't care that much. I actually prefer not to watch most TV in hi-def, because I don't like to see how much all the actors/actresses are aging!
Do you guys watch TV in hi-def? Do you prefer hi-def or low-def (is that even a word)?
