I am paranoid, too.  I just don’t wear mine while swimming or at the beach.

actually it’s not the water that ruins the rings … it’s the possibility of them slipping off that’s the issue! *shudder* my SIL knows of someone who lost his wedding ring swimming in the sea FIRST DAY of his honeymoon!

My stunt double:My ering:

Even if the water weren’t bad for your ring I would still reccommend not wearing your ering. The water will make it a lot easier to slide off and get lost. I got my stunt double at a fair for 5 bucks. I haven’t worn it yet because its yellow gold (I hate mixing metals so I won’t wear it on my right hand) but I plan on wearing it when I go swimming, do a messy activity, go on vacation, and get my ring dipped ect.

I just don’t wear mine when I go to the beach, but it’s not because I’m worried they’ll get messed up by the sand or salt. If your metals are legit and the stones are real gemstones or diamonds, there’s no reason the sand or salt should mess them up. Mostly, I just don’t want to loe the stone somewhere where it would be impossible to recover it. This is also why I don’t shower with my rings on.

Well, yes and no!  I wear my stand in set on my right hand all the time but I also never take off my wedding set from my left.  I don’t swim very often, so I doubt the water will do any great damage to my rings.  I’d be more afriad to lose them by taking them off (and I’ve never had a problem with them slipping off, wet or not).

I guess I am in the minority here, but I have never taken mine off for swimming. Only times I take them off is if I am cooking meat, doing dishes, before sleep (for just my e-ring), and putting on lotion/sunscreen.

They generally stay on for showers, pool, ocean, and other water activities. Have them insured and feel naked without them on so they stay put. Plus I swell up a good half a ring size or more when it is hot out, which is usually when I would be in water. Makes it so I can’t get them off my finger even if I wanted too!

I’m wondering why someone needs a stand in ring when you don’t wear it. It’s not the ring that makes you married. Sorry I just don’t get it, it seems a little over the top.

@bricon:  I wear a stand in because when I don’t wear my ering I have mini heart attacks when I realize my ring isn’t on my finger. Because I always wear my ering and it just feels weird to have nothing on that hand. When I’m married I will probably wear just my wedding band or a plain band.
