@GelaMac:  You and I are on opposite sides of the same problem…I finally got my setting the way I wanted….we bought everything in a hurry and did not have time to order bands special, so we took what we could get with what money we had and Mr. 99’s ring took up a majority of the budget…so last summer we added another band to get the stack that I love….but what I want, what I’ve always wanted is a larger center stone….

I love emerald cuts, so the fact that I even got one blew me away, it’s a half carat and its lovely…but the setting we’ve created commands a larger center stone and I just can’t wait for the day we get to upgrade it because as wonderful as it is now, it will be breath taking with the 1 carat center stone…

@GelaMac:

I’ve recently ‘upgraded’ my ring: the style and TCW is pretty much exactly the same, but I’ve gone from 9ct white gold and H-I SI fair-good cut stones, to platinum and D VVS1 excellent-cut stones. I didn’t do my research before we got engaged, and didn’t realise how much of an issue re-dipping was with white gold, or how much it would bug me. I also knew zero about the 4Cs (bar carat!) along with a lot of people in the UK it seems! (people here are so clued-up, and that’s where I’ve got most of my knowledge from; most people I know in real life know little about diamonds)

I’m really really happy with my new ring, but don’t have it yet! (waiting for OH to give it to me; argh!) I love my current ring, don;t get me wrong, but I’m so much happier with platinum vs white gold and it was definitely the right decision 🙂

It is beautiful either way and I LOVE your bands!

That being said, I totally get it! What about getting a more simple solitaire setting for the time being? That should be relatively inexpensive.

I love everything about my ring except for the round brilliant cut of the moissanite. If I’d known about OEC before ordering, I would have gone with that. Every time I see photos of OEC stones, especially moissanites with the chunky colorful flashes, I’m just blown away. I hope to swap my RB for an OEC moissanite someday.

Your dream setting is gorgeous, hopefully it’s not too far out of reach!

@GelaMac:  Congrats on your grandbaby!

But sorry about your ring–I TOTALLY get it! That setting is SO ultra-modern, and the rest of your jewels are in gorgeous vintage settings!

@GelaMac:  Yes I’m really curious how that’ll turn out! Price isn’t really an issue though, I just feel like I haven’t had the ring long enough to request changes yet. I thought it might be a good first wedding anniversary gift, so hopefully a couple years down the road I will have my dream OEC.

@GelaMac:  ..yeah…my half carat just isn’t cutting it with all those little princesses lined up on either side….Mr. 99 is certainly on the same page as I am with the stone upgrade, with what’s happened over the last 5 years, we both agree that I’ve earned a little more sparkle…so I’m looking forward to a bigger stone..hopefully this year!
