We wouldn't send letters--we'd send FUNNY CARDS! I have the most random collection of cards from him. Sometimes i got a random "happy birthday" card, just cuz it was funny. I got a short but sweet note inside, and it was just a very fun thing...
...otherwise, we're all about utilizing our technology
I'd leave him notes under his pillow and stuff and he'd stick some in my purse sometimes, only to be discovered after he'd left =]
we mostly talk on the phone, text or instant message. considering we met online, it seems appropriate. but we do send the occasiona card with our care packages/gifts and we recently started a shared journal that we pass between us
oh, I am totally guilty of hiding letters in J's luggage :)
I write to him occassionally; he has yet to write back (but I have low expectations for that, so I'm not worried about it, haha)
I write every now and then but the FI?....not so much. We talk (I mentioned our 10,000 min per month average), text, e-mail, and IM though....ALL the time. We also do mutiple things at once (talk, text and IM)....we're nuts =)
We do exchange cards, packages and the occasional letter. I just like picking out cards and he does, too.We both tend to love old-fashioned things. I sent him a really nice fountain pen last Christmas and he always writes to me with it.
But we communicate mostly through texting, VOIP, IMing and email, with the occasional phone call. Viva computers!
I spent 3 months overseas when my FI and I first met (we had been dating about 2 months when I left) and we would write letters almost everyday! I saved all of the letters (hand written) and emails from that time and it is so cute to look back at them. :)
We mostly write each other emails now, but of course the funny/cute cards on special occasions. I really think that my FI and I should bring back the actual letter writing though.
My favorite letters from Lambster were the ones he wrote to me from OCS. He was so miserable and tired and yet he'd write to me when he had to stand watch at night. He's not a big letter writer, but I LOVE writing letters.
All of the above!
We send each other cards, we email, we chat on msn messenger, we text, we call & we cam once or twice a week! We've become addicted to each other over the past few months b/c we haven't been traveling back & forth like we used to.

Before hubby and I started officially dating, we kept in touch by writing long letters and emailing them to eachother [for expediency]--he was studying at Oxford and I was in school in Chicago.
When we started officially dating and spent our first bit of time apart (about 6 weeks over the winter holidays and january term of classes)...we resurrected letter writing and it really helped. We were both busy with family and friends, and then I was out of the country...so letters really helped us stay in touch. Not just the day to day small talk, but talk about deeper issues and our emotions. I also left him notes in his room or in his luggage whenever we would get to see each other.
We wrote letters sporadically during our engagement...(me more than him), but I'm curious if any other LDRers are letter writers as well?
Is the art of letter writing dead in the age of technology?
Do you email or is all about instant communication (text, instant message, phone call)?
