Do you think that the bridesmaids' dresses have to match or echo the wedding dress? I think it would be really neat to show a picture of your dress with the bridesmaids dresses for comparison!
I'll go first, though I'm still deciding.

This is my dress, and my bridesmaids chose a variety of short satin/silk taffeta dresses from DB.

@Satin -WHAT BM dress is that?! I LOVE it! Like, as a dress for a black tie thing I have to go to soon, Im already married lol.
And my dresses were actually kind of opposite...mine was strapless, theirs was halter...I had a-line, theirs were fitted.
No at all - I purposely chose a BM dress that had a sleeker shape because I'm wearing a ball gown. Here are pics of my dress and the BM dresses (note BM dresses will be in plum)

@lanany10 I like the idea of having a more slender shape to the bridesmaids dresses. Maybe the dress I posted plus my gigantic gown would be way too much poof!
Nope...mine don't match. Except for the fact that they are both TOTALLY awesome! lol! ;) They're dresses are short and fitted, and mine is long andf a-line.

The neckline of the two dresses are similar for me: both are crossed sweetheart style. I wanted the two styles to have something in common, but I didn't want the bridesmaids dresses to be a replica of what I will be wearing!
(Note that my dress will be a strapless.)

both of mine were bateau necklines, but part of that was just bc we had a conservative winter wedding...mine was trumpet, and I saw one I liked, but we ended up going with a lines for them....very flattering style overall
@Satin: That's kind of what I was thinking too. I didn't want the pictures to be overtaken by a bunch of giant ballgowns!

Very different styles..
I don't think they should match a whole lot, but should look like they at least belong in the same wedding :)
mine do, in that the dresses they are wearing (3 styles) all have fabric rosettes, and i'm wearing a belt with fabric rosettes as well
those are 2 of the dresses with my dress and belt, but their dresses will be green
i wanted their dresses to have the same feel and formality, but i wanted my dress to stand out.

I am hoping that mine will flow together. I am making the girls dresses in tea length. The color is celedon (a sagey green).

@finnaroo, what designer/style is the burnt orange-y red dress on the left? I LOVE it.

I love that everyone's dresses are SOOO different. My BM dresses are from the same manufacturer, so they all have the same neckline, a slight sweetheart. Other than that, they don't look a thing like mine...

@ Tulip - I love your dress and the BM dresses! Will your girls be wearing that color? It's a beautiful hue of purple.
Not really.
My dress: (excuse my face, I'm the most awkward person in pictures.)
And here are my girls. We're making them based on this pattern. They will be black, matte satin and we're making them into a convertible top.
@Magenta- I made a dress based on that pattern in high school! It was my friend's junior prom dress.
@Magenta & @zippyleaf: I'm SOO impressed that you (or someone) is MAKING your BM dresses...so crafty!
For my wedding the dresses aren't so much in a similar style (BM dresses are short, B is long; BM dresses are black, B is ivory, BM dresses are high neck, B is v-neck) but they DEFINITELY match in fabric & a unique "pattern" of the chiffon. Here's a pick of me & one of my BMs. The best part (as you can tell in the pic) is that my BMs LOVE their dress!
@ connoCat - can I ask who the designer is of your BM dresses? The color of the one on the left is exactly what I'm looking for. I went to the site that the pic is from (bestbridalprices) but looks like they carry a little bit of everyone's.

@Dancy905: Thanks! I love it, too! Best part: got it 50% off at a BCBG MaxAzria sale! I'd been in love with it for a whole year before I purchased it (about two months after FI popped the question & I finally had a GOOD reason to splurge). It's my Friday/church ceremony dress...my Sunday/outdoor is Maggie Sottero RD1044...still on the lookout for BM dresses for that one.

My dress and the bm dresses do not match, but are the same fabric (different color) and same length. I specifically asked that they select a different neckline than mine.

@simpleandchic: We're dress twins! (I'm wearing yours for my Sunday outdoor wedding) I love Maggie RD1044...mine comes in the first week of May. Can't wait to put her on!! LOVE your BM dresses - sweet & casual & beautiful all at the same time. The drape is similar to the RD1044, so there's a nice harmony there. Are you doing a beach wedding?

at BeachFanatic and Ms Pasqua thank you. It is great to get positive feedback. Esp as i dont know if my bm's were thrilled with my choices. My bridesmaids are not matching either. one is in buttercup the other in a light lime green and the other is in a lightr aqua. @ Ms Pasqua our wedding will be in a church, in a beach town but the reception venue is right on the beach and the photos will be on the beach.

Here is my dress and the 6 BM dresses. They are wearing it in this color (fern green) and my dress is style CH515.
Here is a really stupid mock up from the Davids Bridal "Dress your Wedding" tool. I am kinda embarassed to post this, but whatever, hopefully you all know the tool never works well.
@labbit - Thanks! Yes, my bridesmaids will be wearing that exact purple color. It was really difficult to find a dress that I liked and had the shade of purple that I wanted, and I was really excited to find that one! It's a Dessy dress and the color is called African Violet.
