My color scheme for the wedding is fall colors (i.e. oranges, reds, yellows, etc) with a focus on orange.
The wedding is at a yacht club (and Fiance is a sailor) so we are using a “knot” motif on our Save the Dates.
I am using navy blue as a “neutral” at the wedding (BMs will be in Navy blue), but now it’s looking like that’s the best color for the invites and Save-The-Date Cards too since we are using a knot and a nautical theme.
Is it OK for my Save-The-Date Cards and invites to be navy and white, but my color scheme for flowers and linens to be oranges and other fall colors?

your invites don’t have to match. most of the time they do, because they can set the tone of the wedding.
if you use navy blue, they will match because that’s your bm color. you definitely don’t have to include every color in your wedding palette!

@kitzy: Thanks. I’m not even thinking of navy as one of my colors, but I guess it is.
Maybe I’ll have orange envelope liners for the invitations so at least a pop of color is there somewhere.
I just love how clean and classic the navy looks, but I don’t want people to get to the wedding and see all the color and go, “I thought this was going to be a classic navy and white wedding”.

@KatNYC2011:haha no one other than maybe another bride-to-be would ever think that! i think most people forget what the invite looks like within a week, sadly.

@kitzy: Haha… ok thanks! You are right. I’ve got bride-brain right now.
I don’t know *why* I’d think my guests would walk into the cocktail hour, see orange linens and go “OMG I thought this was a BLUE wedding”.
Sounds pretty funny doesn’t it?

I dont think they have to. Alot of people do match their invites to their wedding colors, but I wont be doing that.

@KatNYC2011: I know one lady who did that. We were at lunch and she said “And so I got her invites and they were so pretty so I was looking forward to the wedding but when I got there, the colors weren’t there”. I tell you, there were about 10 women there, we all stared at her mouth agape. We’d never heard of anyone doing this before. Still, my invites are not matching my wedding colors either.

@bRooklynRocks: That’s pretty funny.
Well, if anything it’ll be the other way around for me, since the invites will be simple navy and white and the wedding will have vibrant oranges and fall colors.

I don’t think they have to either. I was just recently having a conversation with a coworker about this because the backing for my invitation is a sort of purple (Beet from papersource) and the accent color for the invites is a sort of pool blue. They look beautiful but I don’t see myself incorporating the purple shade into the actual wedding or reception since it will be in the spring and it’s a bit dark.
Anyway, I think I don’t think most people will even look at the invitation again after they send back an rsvp card. But the orange envelope liner idea would look so pretty and would be a good way to incorporate the color.
