Anybody have a suggestion for a good DOC on the Emerald Coast? We're hosting a destination event in Seaside, FL and have a coordinator that works for them, but I really want somebody to act just on my behalf and not worry about flowers or the venue, etc. ALL ABOUT ME! Ha. I need somebody to make sure my DIY projects are done right, check on our guests at the various events going on during the day of, keep my mother and I from killing each other. Any suggestions would be great!
Hi Kate, my mother's friend used to be an event coordinator with Bella Flora and is doing DOC for my wedding as a family favor. I'll ask her if she's still doing it professionally for you, if you'd like!
That's great, because they are actually one of the florists I'm looking at using. I didn't realize that they did DOC stuff as well. I was leaning towards another florist, but that could change my mind.
The woman of whom I'm speaking does not work for them anymore, but they still provide the service. Check out the page describing their packages on their website:
I have never noticed that before. HA! Thanks! They have a horrible website. I've seen their work in person and it pales in comparison to what's on that site. We're also looking at Nouveau Flowers www.nouveauflowers.com as well and their site is fantastic.
Their look book is fantastic. I'm really looking forward to my meeting in October. I'm going to NYC next week and am hoping to find some great centerpiece bowls, vases, etc. while I'm there, so I can show them to the florists when I go down in October.
As far as photographers go, that's the one place that Seaside has really limited me. We're either going with Meg Baisden www.megphoto.com or Vue Photography www.genyasvue.com. I like them both very much, but they are more than I wanted to spend by a long shot. But, all the photographers that they had on their list that is at the price we want to spend stinks...bad!! Who did you find to use?
Wow, I have spent the last 45 minutes poring over the blog of Vue Photography! Meg Baisden is good too, but Vue has some really innovative shots - like the one of the couple reflected in the groom's ring.
We're going with Ursula Graham out of Pensacola. I think we are, anyway. I'm actually flying down there tomorrow (Tuesday) for ten days, and meeting with her on Wednesday in person for the first time to go over details and possibly sign the contract.
It's funny you say that about Vue, because I think that's the exact reason that my husband doesn't like them! They are actually more expensive then Meg, which I didn't realize until the other day. All of Meg's packages include two photographers, which is her and her husband Charles and you have to pick the biggest ($5600) package with Vue to get two. I just don't know what I'm going to do. I'm ready for Oct. to come around, so I can go down and visit. I need to meet them and see what clicks.
I am a Panama City bride and I love my wedding planner. I have hired her to be a full fledged through the process planner, but I think she does DOC as well. My family has known her since I was a little kid (literally, she used to be my baby-sitter!) shes organized and friendly and is the go-to cooridnator for all the locals. (Locals mainly because she doesn't have a website since she gets enough business from word of mouth.) Her name is Rachelle Youd and I would highly recommend her. youpc@aol.com is her email.
As for VUE photography, I met with Genya and loved her. In my opinion, after lots of research. Paul Johnson is the best of the best and no one can believe he's from Panama City! He's a steal for his quality, but that doesn't mean he's cheap. Genya (VUE) is second to him I believe. She has an amazing personality and eye for detail.
NOTE TO ANYONE LOOKING AT VUE PRICES: Those are basic package set-ups, but are by NO MEANS set in stone. KateMW said you have to get the biggest package to have two photogs - not true! You can add on a additional photog to any package, its just the one she's got it listed with.
Rounding out the top 3 photogs o teh Gulf Coast (IN MY OPINION) is Rae Leytham. She is my photographer and I love her and her husband to death. They travel ALOT for weddings, and it actually doesn't change the price by much.
I love Paul's work, but was very turned off by some comments that were made by somebody at his studio. Basically bad mouthing the venue I've chosen, because of a choice THEY made, not the venue. Oh well, it's not a biggie, he's just not for me. He is super talented though. I also really like Vue. Rae is not on the Seaside list, but I love her work as well.
Paul's wife does most of the website and blog if thats where you saw the comments. I am surprised to hear they were bad mouthing anything, I've met them and they were so sweet. It could be worth asking them to see if they found a particular snafu with that venue that you might want to be aware of ahead of time. They are pretty down to earth people. And if he is in your price range - def worth straightening that out.
I am not sure which list you are looking at but Rae should be on the Seaside vendor lists. I've seen her work from there and is amazing. Rae will be hauling it all the way to PC for my wedding. (OMG RAE is my photographer!! I signed a contract with her a few months ago and I am still excited about it!!) I am shooting a boudior session with her next week, so then I will be able to give my personal opinion on working with her. But from the meetings and emails, her personality rocks. Her and her husbands photography is top notch. And I am told their professionalism and preparedness at weddings is unrivaled. (I'm told that by other photographers who know all about the cameras and back up systems etc who all ooh and ahhh over their work and materials.)
She's definitely not on your vendor list, but I signed a contract with Ursula Graham out of Fort Walton Beach the other day - great style, dirt cheap. Photos were comparable to Dawn Anderson (who, by the way, if she is on your vendor list I would recommend - she came highly recommended to me, but was out of my price range).
I'm still here! I go home on Friday. I thought of you yesterday - I spent the afternoon in Seaside! Had lunch at Bud & Alley's then swung by Bella Flora up the road. I was pleasantly surprised... I had the girl price out a ceremony set up for me and it came to a lot less than other places I looked at. Turns out my brother used to rent a house from the owner! Anyway, I am having them put together a propsal for me including flowers, so we'll see how that compares to Publix doing a market buy for me : )

If you're still looking for a photographer, find out who shot that lookbook!
