Does Anyone Else's Ring Not Fit???

My engagement ring does not fit. The embarassing part is I have had my ring for over a year!  I just don't want to be without it--even for a day. But now I'm starting to think maybe I should get it fitted since it twists around so much.  Thankfully it's not loose enough to fall off!

I feel bad taking it in since my FI had to get it specially made for my smaller than average finger.  Plus, I'm paranoid that getting it sized smaller (probably just a quarter or so) may weaken the integrity of the setting, and the baguettes on my band may then fall out.

So has anyone else not gotten their e-ring re-sized since the proposal even though they probably should??  I feel like I'm the only one who has a ring they didn't get sized correctly to their finger right after they got engaged. Embarassed

Could it just be because of winter? My rings twists around a lot when its colder out (doesn't even have to be COLD, just colder), and then fits pretty snug in the summer. Or, is it the same, even when its hot out?

I would suggest taking it to a jeweler; they can determine if sizing it down will weaken the setting, and they can also determine exactly how much smaller it needs to be. Good luck!

Mine is a little loose and twists around, but if it were any smaller, it would not fit over my knuckle.

Have you tried on your wedding band with the e-ring? Sometimes wearing two rings makes them fit tighter.

It's definitely hard to part with, but you should definitely get it fitted. You may be doing damage to it from it sliding around a bit. Even if you get a guard...that might help!

I have a spacer on mine.  It should take a jeweler about 30 seconds to put it on.  It doesn't look great (but it is below my finger so only I can see it) and isn't a permenant option, but it does the trick to keep it on my finger!

i had two little balls sautered into the inside bottom of mine that make it a bit tighter. i did this instead of having the whole ring sized for a 1/4 of a size and they can be easily removed if my fingers ever expand.

@Miss Sewing: Love it! Sometimes I wear mine on my right ring finger so it actually fits lol!

@gabrielleelise: It's not the winter! It's loose all year. I was actually worried that being in the cold this winter would make it fall off, but I've gotten pretty lucky that my fingers have stayed the same size :)

@Nexus: Agreed! I think that's the smartest thing I can do--leave it to the experts.

@Jacqi: I think we have the same types of fingers. Mine are kind of "bony" so my knuckle is not the same size as the rest of my finger. Def makes the perfect fit harder.  I don't have a wedding band yet, but I'm hoping when I do, it will really secure everything.

@2PeasinaPod: True! I never even thought about the damage aspect.

    @Rachael: Another good option. Thanks!

Aw I understand I did not want to part with mine either, but it is for the best imagine how awful you would feel if it came off one day and you had to search around for it.  You can prevent that by having it sized I was able to get mine done in an hour, the jeweler did the sizing right there on site.  We took it in and one hour later she was back on my hand in all her sparkly glory nice and snug Laughing

LIke Smilez, I just had our jeweler put two balls on the ring to keep it from turning.  I didn't want to make it any smaller b/c my fingers do swell when it's hot out, so the balls are a great solution - and they can always be removed.

@smilez: That's a great option! I love that it's removable just in case our fingers naturally get a little bigger than they are now.

Mine had to be ripped away from me to get fitted. My fingers are so skinny!! It's still a little big, but way better than before.

@BlissBound: omg! That happened to me once and I almost died! Luckily I found it a couple hours later on my dresser, but it is such a horrible feeling!

@fancygirl: I def think I might look into the balls option. Thanks!

@PrncssDva: I am going to be exactly the same :) Happy you got yours fitting better.

@wendylynn: Twice?! Why?? Was it because your finger size changed or they didn't do it correctly the first time?

It took me about a year to get mine fitted.  It always does seem to be a little looser in the cold and a little tighter in the heat though so I would make sure it isn't that.  Plus you should check with a jeweler to make sure that it can be done safely without damaging the integrity of the band.

I'm lucky enough that the jeweler we used was FSIL's FIL, so he easily fitted my ring down to a 4.5. I have to say, it still slides around and probably should go down slightly in size, but I realllllly don't want to part with it. Plus, when it's really hot outside my fingers tend to swell, and then it fits snugly.

Mine doesn't fit either... I wear a sizer on it for now until I take it in to get it fitted. I'm concerned that my fingers will swell during summer so I don't particularly want to do anything about it just now.

Mine was about 3 or more sizes too big (he didn't have time to get it sized before we left on vacation where he proposed) and I did NOT want to give it up to get sized. I initially wore another ring that was smaller infront of my e ring so that it wouldn't fall off. However one day I was doing laundry and it fell off in the pile without me noticing and trust me, losing it was the biggest wake up call I had and I immediately took it in to get sized when I found it again. I think I was without it for about a day and now it fits perfectly and I'm so glad that I don't have to worry about it anymore.

oh my gosh, i have been engaged over a year and we still haven't gotten it resized. Its way to big so i.....i....................tie string around it. Embarassed its so embarrassing. I love my ring but rarely show it off because of the ball of white string on the bottom.

FI bought it at "home" and after he proposed in P-Burgh, we just thought we'd wait to get it sized at the jeweler where he bought when we went home sometime.

yeeeeeeaaaaaaahhhhhhh..its been over a year and some change and we need to get on it. like now.

I got mine resized a month after being engaged! And I am sooooo much happier that I did. It is soooo much more comfortable now and only spins when I am really cold or wet!

I had mine resized a week after getting engaged.  I was waaaaaay too nervous having my ring too big!  My jeweler is awesome and did it right there while I waited.  It only took about 30 mins, so I didn't have to part with it for very long!  :)

I already got my ring sized after we got enageged(parting with it even for a few hours stinks!!!) and it's still too big!  I am personally going to wait until after summer because your finger swell in the summer time!  I don't wanna get it sized for the 2nd time and have it be too small!

My ring was ENORMOUS when my FI gave it to me. (I wear a size 4.25 ring and the jeweler didn't believe my fingers were really that small.) To make matters worse, FI proposed to me on an airplane (but that's a different story) at the start of Thanksgiving vacation, so we couldn't resize the ring until we returned home the following week. I told myself I'd put the ring away and wear it once it was the proper size, but of course I couldn't leave it off for 15 minutes all week! I rigged all sorts of crazy tape and bandaid contraptions to keep from losing the ring. When we returned, I had it made smaller twice because it could still fall off my hand after the first resize (it's still a tiny bit loose but will probably be perfect in warmer weather). I tried not to be a baby about it, but I hated to be without it for even a minute.

Are you sure your ring can't fall off? It sounds like it's still not really the right size. Can you shake it off with a vigorous hand shake? Are you sure it would compromise the ring to make it just a bit smaller? It doesn't seem worht the risk of losing it!

My ring was way too big, as in, it flew off my hand moments after I got engaged and I dove headfirst into a nearby bush to find it! Then I got it sized and FH picked it up from the jeweler's for me...still too big. Just dropped it off last week to get it resizedagain (this was 4 months later, after I'd been wearing a little plastic ring gguard on it). The problem is the setting is a bit odd...under the stone it is open (hard to explain) so a traditional size 4 is really a 4.25 with this setting. Plus, the lady told me I have no knuckle to keep it on. Uh...thanks???

If it's way too big, i would get it resized right away (better to be without it for a few days than to lose it and be without it forever!!)

If it's only a little too big, then you can always get a ring snuggie (google it, or look on ebay) it's a clear tube-like cuff that goes on the inside of your hand (bottom of the ring) and helps to adjust the fit of your ring.

I actually had FI resize the ring before he proposed (but i knew it was coming since I picked it out). Depending on temperature, my finger swells so sometimes it is still a little loose, but the jeweler said that much smaller would make it difficult to resize (plus i've heard of women having difficulty getting their rings made bigger after being made smaller (like after pregnancy, weight gain or due to arthritis).

The ring snuggies work well on the loose days and easily go on and off for the swollen days :)

i got mine resized 2 days after we got engaged, then had to bring it back again to get the dots put in since the weight of the stone causes it to spin on my finger (i have big knuckles but skinny fingers - the curse of being a pianist and violinist!!!)

its worth it to get sized, even though i was depressed teh whole time it was off my finger.

not to mention when FH had to take it back to the jeweler to get it appraised for our insurance, i was without it for a WHOLE MORNING!!! i made him come to my office to give it back to me when the appraiser was done *giggles*

Mine is a bit too large because I've lost weight since before we were engaged. Like most, I don't really want to part with it. If you can hold out till you need to add your wedding band, I was told by my jeweler that it will get smaller when they weld the two together. My FI got me 2 bands (one on each side of the e-ring) so it should really help size it right.

well my ring was to big for my finger when my FI proposed and i couldn't handle it, i was so freaked out it was going to fall off my finger and its top heavy so it would flip upside down all the time....... so i called the place we got it and i asked if we could get it down in one day so i could pick it up after school and they let me. If i was going to have to wait for days i wasn't going to do it, because i couldn't part with it.

I have two small balls on the inside of my e-ring to stop it from spinning.  Your fingers will contract when it's cold and when you move them a lot (like typing in a cold office), and the two side balls will help it stop spinning.  But the balls won't make it any smaller, so that you can still get it off if you need to when your fingers are swollen (like when you first wake up or when your hands are warm).

Am I the only one who takes their e-ring off? I don't exercise, shower or sleep with it. Maybe it will change when I have my wedding bands.

@BudsBride - no I take mine off to shower and sleep.  I used to take it off (and put it in my pocket/purse) each and every time I washed my hands and put on hand lotion, but now sometimes I don't as it's pretty bothersome.

Mine is a bit too big too both because of my too big knuckles, like jacqi, and because of the stone weight, like spaganya.

I only learned recently that I could add those two little balls that smilez and chicagobride092010 have and we're hoping to do that sometime this year after the wedding.  We just don't have the time (or the money) right now and it's only a bit annoying since it's starting to be warmer.

I got mine sized right after we got engaged.  I thought my finger was a size 6, but when FI proposed, my ering was too big.  I went to the jeweler and she measured me.  My ring finger is actually 4 and 3/4.  Eeek.  And I've lost weight since then and my ring is loose again.  But I don't think it needs to be sized again.

I'm shocked by all the people that haven't had their ring sized to fit them properly!  I got mine sized right after he proposed.  It would annoy me to have a ring that doesn't fit perfectly.  Yes, I didn't have the ring for a week while it was getting sized, but I'll have it for the rest of my life, so what's the big deal about one week?

I got mine one week from today and it is a little big. We are going to try to make it back to the jewelers this weekend to see what we can do. My big fear is that is going to fall off and I can handle parting with it for a week or so if it means that I wont loose it!

My partner bought me a J (4 3/4) knowing I have small finger and I even had that resized to a to a H and 1/2 (4 1/4) my knuckle is 1/2 a size bigger. Some days i do feel it is loose but I know if I do get it resized it could be tight on other days. I could go a H. If I need to but will rething it closer to buying the wedding bands. (I'm afraid of when I go swimming as I have almost lost it in the rain a few times) My fingers are only small and I'm not sure if it will be too tight 2 jewellers have told me that because of the difference in my knuckle size and finger size that it will still spin if I get it any smaller - the hazard of having small fingers.
