We’re still pricing our different venue options, and I just realized that I never asked whether the per per bar fee excludes guests under 21. We will have probably 25 kids in that category. It seems ridiculous that a place could charge you a bar fee for a child, but I wouldn’t put it past them.
What was the practice at your venue?

We had a per person bar package. When we were close to paying, I had the manager exclude the 5 under-21s we had. It seemed to be common practice. We still did have to pay for soda and juice for them.

Ours allowed us to exclude the under 21 year olds, but this also meant they carded A LOT of our guests.

We gave separate counts. Our caterers only included water, tea, and coffee in our food package, so the bar package was all soft drinks, juice, beer, wine, and champagne, all priced per person. The over-21’s were $25/pp and the under 21’s were only $8/pp to cover the soft drinks and juice.

Our bar charge was for our entire guest count, minus the only child at the event. So we did have to pay for the under-21s who were not children (teens, etc).

Good to know. It seems like most places are reasonable and will only charge for soda/juice. I can live with that.
@Gemstone: That stinks that you had to pay for under 21s. If we had to do that (even without the little kiddos) it would be an extra $600-$1,000!

our venue included food and alcohol, and the per person cost was different for under 21s and adults

@mspuppylove: Yeah, luckily we didn’t have that many under-21s at our wedding, and the bar package wasn’t too bad pricewise.
It’s definitely a good thing to find out!
