Well i am putting my guy and his guys in a Ivory shirts because it just goes better with my color scheme---> my colors are chocolate, ivory, burnt orange and champagne --- My dress is Ivory/champagne and the girls are going to be in Burnt Orange so i am having my FH and his GM in brown suits, FH will have Ivory shirt and champagne tie and vest, his GM will have ivory shirt and burnt orange vest/ties. I think if you are going to have his shirt/vest and tie all one color i would go with Ivory; but if you are doing a different color for his vest/tie a white shirt wouldnt be all that noticible

My dress is candlelight and the guys are wearing navy jackets and khaki pants for our 11 am wedding-2nd time for both of us so we are going a bit more informal-guys are wearing white shirts and it really looks fine.
My dress is ivory and the groomspeople (one of whom is a woman) are wearing white shirts with their suits. I would have preferred ivory but my fiance had already told everyone white, so I just decided to let it go. I don't think it's going to be a huge deal.
This has been asked a lot on the Boards! Check out these posts:

I posted links to images or me in my ivory dress and my groom in his ivory shirt/vest/tie:

AHAHAHH - we also recently had the men's store who is providing our groomsmens' wear, that ivory was the end all be all since my dress is ivory. We've since decided to be not nazi-ish about it because my man found a goreous white Eves Staint Laurent WHITE shirt that he wants to wear with his purchased tux. It looks goregous so I'm pro letting him go with it - it will be more relevant in the long run. I say buck what everyone is saying. We all look good!
My dress is ivory and the guys are wearing white shirts. I thought the ivory shirts (this was at Men's Wearhouse) looked much more yellowish than my dress did and definitely looked dingy. So we're going with white shirts.
I was in a wedding last year where the bride wore ivory, and the guys wore white, also.
Ok, thanks everyone, I appreciate it! I'm sort of leaning towards an ivory vest and tie with the white shirt...yah? no?
I've gone back and forth on this too! My dress is a light ivory, so when Mens Wearhouse insisted the guys wear ivory i was caught off guard. Their ivory shirt looked almost buttercup yellow. I am going to have the guys wear white, but am also debating the ivory vest for my guy- the rest are wearing navy blue. When my sister got married, my BIL wore white with a champagne vest which picked up some accents in her dress. Bottom line is, we definately stress about this way too much. Barely any of the vest is seen in pictures.
my dress is ivory too and the guys are wearing white shirts with the ivory vest.
my dress is ivory and my fiance is wearing an ivory shirt, chocolate tux, aqua vest, ivory tie. other groomsmen are wearing the same but with aqua tie instead of ivory.
David's Bridal insisted that my FH wear ivory to match my ivory dress or else my dress could look "dirty" in comparsion in photos.
However, like white, there are a million shades of ivory. So when I hem my dress, I'm going to ask for the extra fabric and bring it along when we get FH's shirt. Hopefully, we can get a close match. For the groomsmen, I'm just going to say ivory...even if they show up in white, I'm sure it'll be fine. They're not wearing the same suit, and I'm putting them in matching ties and bouts.
My dress is a soft white, not as dark as ivory, but not bright white. The first thing my mom said was, NOBODY CAN WEAR WHITE. Lol. I guess if the groomsmen/fathers/groom etc are wearing white it will make the dress look dirty?
I know this is an old thread, but I went to Men's Warehouse last night and had the same issue. Those shirts are definitely yellow! The saleswoman kept trying to push it since I said my dress was ivory. But like others said, it is a very light ivory, with silver detailings, so I do not think that it would look good with such a yellow-ivory. Ugg, I was so disapointed with Men's Warehouse. Don't they advertise that they can match any color from David's Bridal? This is not the case at all. So in my head I was thinking, we can go try After Hours Formal Wear and see what color vests & ties they have, but apparently they were bought by Men's Warehouse. Anyway, if this is where we end up getting the tuxes, we are definitely going with white shirts.
i haven't read all the posts but my dress is ivory, and i'm just not a big fan of white anything, so i'm thinking we'll do off-white of ivory for the guys.
I had the same problem with shirts--it actually still makes me grouchy to think about it. Like many of you said above, my dress is a soft ivory and not yellow. Despite the many opinions offered by the guy at Mens Wearhouse, we decided to have FI wear a white shirt with ivory vest/tie and the groomsmen in white shirts with black vests/ties.
My dress is ivory and we're going to still do white shirts with the navy blue suits. I am not a fan of "ivory" men's shirts and I don't think ivory would look as good with navy blue as white will. I figure I am the bride, I'm suppose to stand out! :) As for looking dirty....I don't think it will. I hope not anyhow!
My dress is ivory- it complimented my light olive skin tone so much better than white. I felt the white washed me out terribly, even with a tan!!-- and this is my first wedding. In my opinion, I think you should go with whatever compliments your skin tone.
White was the norm, but so was not wearing black to a wedding. Now I see black as the color for weddings. Today's standards have transformed generation to generation.
Just if you choose ivory like I have....be-careful when choosing colors for your wedding and decor. I'm going with ivory for the groomsmen and my fiance--also with satin ivory tablecloths, satin ivory chair covers with white accented napkins and other white accented decor including a mix of creme and white colored roses. But then again, my wedding is vintage garden theme so the ivory and pastel green meshes perfectly.

If my dress is ivory, should my fiance and his men wear ivory shirts? The man at the store said DEFINITELY, or else my dress will look much darker when I stand next to him in bright white.
My MIL says absolutely not, it makes no difference, and instead, an ivory shirt for him will make HIM look dirty <--(I didn't make it up). She says he doesn't have a lot of white and it would be different if he had a white tux, however I think that having a bright white silky vest, a bright white shirt and a bright white tie will look pretty bright!
I told her I would ask around to see what other people would say, and she said to just let it go.
What are you doing/did you do? Is it really noticeable if the bride has an ivory dress and the groom has on white?
