I have been searching high and low for amazing flats to wear with my wedding gown, and really haven’t found anything worth splurging on. I’m thinking about just getting the plain dessy ballet flats. Does anyone really end up seeing your shoes? I wanted something with a little more fabulosity than plain ivory flats but I’m getting sick of looking…

I think it depends on the gown. I initially wanted to wear a pair of shoes I already owned (olive green floral embroidered Mary Janes) because they are pretty, I love them, they are super comfortable, they coordinate with the wedding colors, and I didn’t think anyone would see them anyway. I tried them on with my dress and walked around in front of a mirror, and I decided that, yes, people would see them, because my foot peeked out every time I took a step – and they just weren’t quite right with the gown. (My gown, by the way, is an A-line and I’m not wearing a crinoline or hoop or anything. Bigger, poofier skirts might completely hide the shoes, but with mine, they show.)
Thus began a quest for shoes (a quest that I’d been hoping to avoid) … arrrggghhh … but I ended up finding something awesome:
I got them in the pale gold “panna cotta” color, and I’m really pleased with them. My gown has a scalloped lace hem, and the little spray of flowers peeks out along the edge of the lace when I walk – they look great together. Plus they are extremely comfortable, and I will definitely wear them beyond the wedding, so I am confident I’ll get my money’s worth out of them. Also, Nordstrom has free shipping and free returns, so it was risk-free to try them out. (I initially ordered multiple sizes to be sure of getting the best possible fit for my wide feet.)
Keep looking! You will find something!

For me, shoes are more about the way they make you feel. A great pair of shoes can make me feel like an absolute princess. And for that, I don’t care if no one sees them. Knowing they’re under there will definitely give me a glow that no amount of blush could! How does a great pair of shoes make you feel? If you’re not really a shoe person, then I don’t think it matters. A friend of mine wore hot pink converse sneakers under her ballgown.

I was just thinking about this. I was in the market for some summery tan sandals, so i want my wedding shoes to perform double duty – something I’d rewear! No 4″ glitter pumps thank you (some may rewear those, but I couldn’t).
I don’t think they need to steal the show on their own. Some get details shots of their shoes, but think about it 50 years ago I bet no one was taking photos of wedding shoes.

Meh, I wore sneakers (ok, glitter covered chuck taylors) and no one noticed unless I hiked up my dress and showed them. I’ve never been a shoe girl, and didn’t care about having fancy shoes because it’s just not at all important to me. I just wanted to be comfortable since I knew I’d be on my feet for like 8 hours! Get shoes that you’re comfortable with wearing and that make YOU happy!

The guests will surely see your shoes during the garter toss! I went for some comfy sparkly heels! Although..my shoes were not caught on camera…lol

For the most part, I would say your shoes are not seen. The only time anyone noticed my shoes was during the dance I was holding up my dress some because I was so hot. However, I did get some photos of my shoes in detail shots and a few of the wedding photos. So I liked having nice shoes for that.

My bestfriend just got married, she held up her dress while walking in to the waiting area for the ceremony, it was in a photo or 2, and then it’s in the details pictures. I am totally going for 2 pairs of shoes to change in and out of. But at the end of the day you know, and sometimes wearing a really gorgeous pair of shoes just make you feel that much better/more beautiful
