We are drowning in a sea of overblown estimates here! Help.  Anybody? A good but reasonable caterer in Manhattan or the outer boroughs who can feed under 80 guests in NYC in June? This can't be impossible can it?

I wish I could help you. We live in Northern NJ and were finding either all-inclusive reception halls that were tacky and vulgar, or venues where I would have to arrange for everything myself, which is an avenue I didn't feel I was up to.

I'm sorry I don't have any vendor recommendations for you, but perhaps what you can do is ask around at NY-based bridal blogs (Brooklyn Bride comes to mind) and possibly ask your other vendors if they can offer suggestions.

    Good luck!

Thanks eurekaanchovies (very cute name btw)!

we rented the space first (mucho bucks) and are now left with hiring vendors, a la carte, which is also super expensive.  The venue has recommended caterers but they're the ones that seem so overpriced.  We're working on it... thanks though very much for your reply.  and good luck to you too!

Have you looked at restaurants? We met with Blue Smoke barbeque (owned by Danny Meyer!) and it was fairly reasonable--their catering menus and prices are on their website as well.

i think with that number, a restaurant may be a good idea. i remember calling caterers and one told me that for my size wedding (around 60 people), that there were enough necessary costs that it wouldn't be that much savings from the cost of catering for a larger weddings.  have you tried city hall restaurant or bubby's? those are two popular choices and i've heard about really fun weddings at both places!

I think a restaurant is a very good idea. Maybe even more than one!

Hi you guys.  Thanks, but now I'm a little confused.  We rented the space already.  A loft downtown, so we're not going to be able to do a restaurant at all.  Unless you were talking about having a restaurant cater in our space?

That's exactly what I think everyone was suggesting. Many restaurants are capable of catering large parties in an off-site location.

I have a friend who was married last summer in a boat house in a county park, and she and her now husband hired their favorite restaurants to cater. The had about 75 guests at their wedding, and from a guest's perspective, it went off without a hitch.

Well, there was that one hitch... ;)

    Good luck.

Does the loft have the facilities for some the food to be prepared on-site? If so, how about getting quotes from caterers in nearby areas? I know some of the caterers I looked at for my wedding in Fairfield County, CT cater in NYC, and their prices are much lower per person.

I've heard that Yen Ngo (I think that's the name) of Real Food Catering is good and reasonably priced. Good luck!

oh sorry, i didn't see that you had already rented a space.  like hilsy85, i have also heard really good things about real food catering--however when i called her a few years ago she didn't do weddings under 150 people. she might have changed her policies, though. i have also heard good things about raging skillet, and i did call a company called chef & co. which seemed to be reasonable. let us know if you find someone!

Ohhhhh thanks gals for all the great suggestions.  Like the comment about one "hitch" (hehe).  Anyhow, I'm going to google Real Food Catering and Raging Skillet and Chef and Co right away...
