We invited FH’s adult cousin and husband who we barely know, as a request of his father. We added ‘2 seats have been reserved…’. two days after mailing we get a call. Cousin and husband don’t understand why their teenage daughter (that we’ve never met) wasn’t invited. We explained it was adults only, and because we are providing our own bar, we want to be extra careful about kids, and expressed our apologies. We then get an email from another family member who isn’t even invited, offering to pay for the teenagers dinner so she can attend!! Apparently our explanation didn’t quite come across. Eventually cousin and husband return the RSVP with regrets, and a note that they just can’t leave teenager home when they are enjoying themselves at a “family event” (creepy much?)
Next, we get back an RSVP from this cousins mother. It was addressed to Mr & Mrs, and the inner envelope had both their names. Still, they wrote in a ? next to the 2, where it said 2 seats are reserved. How is that confusing. You have only adult children, and they are invited. Did you think you would get invited to bring teenager with you?
Anyway, they also declined to attend, because the original offenders were giving them a ride.
We also got a (single) friend who didn’t get a +1, but asked to bring her brother, with no explanation. Another friend asked to bring her college roommate because she was in town.
My adult cousin replied he was attending. It was just him invited. He then mentions he’s not sure if his young kids will be able to make it though. Um hello! They weren’t invited?!!
I cannot wrap my head around how ignorant/rude/entitled our family is!!
