PositiveThinking:  I LOVE this show! I too am a little disgusted by the way they live but I love the drama. It is so funny sometimes. I guess part of the reason I find it funny is it is a show that has not found, yet another, southern, redneck, white trash family that makes all southerners look bad. Did you watch last night?

It’s a guilty pleasure for me too.  I love the other-the-top dresses, though I think the ones on the original, British version of the show are even better.  I’m not entirely surprised that those are the kind of wedding dresses that teenage girls pick out.  What horrifies me are the outfits for the little girls’ first communions.

PositiveThinking:  I hate the Americans!!!  Wait, that came out wrong…

The American gypsies on TV, I don’t really “believe” them.  I feel most of it is put on for the cameras (though I have no doubt they’re that trashy and full of drama!!)

Have you ever seen the gypsies in the UK??  Now THAT’S a site!  I’ve encountered a couple in my travels (not at a wedding, in passing while in Ireland) and that ish is the real deal.

What I don’t understand is the whole “dress and dance like a stripper, but we can’t even hold hands”.  They show these 6 y/o girls humping the floor!  It’s outrageous!

DH and I are both obsessed with this show! Maybe obsessed ins’t the right word and it’s more like fascinated, but every time it’s on we will watch it without blinking. Everything in it is just so insane and bizarre it’s like watching a dog walking on two legs.

BurlapnLace:  Totally agree! This is what DH and I discuss for most of the show- we don’t understand the whole let’s dress, dance, and act like straight up hookers but not actually be. At all.

The british version is way crazier. They are legit “travelers”. I remember watching one explaining the “grabbing tradition” which is so far beyond comprehension for me/any normal human. Pretty sure I just sat there with my mouth open while my brain exploded inside my head.

PositiveThinking:  Yes I was just watching this last night!  My DH is actually fascinated with gypsy lifestyle in general.  BUT – I know you will appreciate this – I am going to a half gypsy wedding this year!  The groom is a gypsy and he is marrying a non-gypsy.  My DH and I are SO excited for this.  I know the couple have to get bouncers to keep the non invited gypsys from crashing their wedding!

PositiveThinking:  I know right? I was surprised when she didnt wear a big dress like they do. They even walk in those things. I thought they broke up last year/beginning of this year, so I was shocked they were getting married.

What about the episode with the couple who had never met in person getting married on the first date? That mom was something else. Dont want to tell too much if it is one you have not seen.

You HAVE to watch last nights, it was something else.

MrsBaldEagle:  How interesting. A lot of places will not rent to them because of how they tear things up, etc. I am always fascinated by other cultures period.

BurlapnLace:  emilibenn:  PositiveThinking:  I also agree about the Americans! They also talk about living private lives yet they are on national tv fighting and telling about their personal lives.

PositiveThinking:  it’s fascinating for sure. im very interested In the outfits and I actually appreciate that their way of dress does not necessarily align with their choices sexually. Why should it have to? If they want to dress ‘sexy’ and wait til marriage I say you go girl! I was also very interested on how shunned some members can be and how NO ONE seems to actually go the marriage ceremony’s.

PositiveThinking:  I don’t know why I feel embarrassed admitting it in a thread full of other people that watch lol but I love this show. And, although I would never wear one I do like seeing the way way over the top dresses.

PositiveThinking:  we just cannot stop watching it either! What I really wanna know is how much those dresses even cost? I swear I wonder that every.single.episode…. They look crazy expensive because of all the details, beading, and gigantic size, but alot of the girls wearing the gowns don’t have jobs, some aren’t even on speaking terms with their parents so I wonder how they get paid for?
