She's trying to bury her water dish. Not sure why they do that, but our cat will try to bury anything. Usually anything smelly, but he sometimes tries to bury his water dish too. It's pretty funny sometimes. Our cat isn't as creative as yours though, he just paws at the floor like that's going to bury it. He never actually goes and gets something to bury anything.
My cat does it all the time! He puts strings, toys, his food, anything that's small enough to fit. He hasn't upgraded to a sock though. He's almost 2 years old and he's always done this. He seems to be pretty intrigued by anything having to do with water. He loves to play in it, its so strange! But at least it garantees him fresh water everyday!
Maybe she can't see the water in the dish and having something in it helps her so she doesn't choke when she's drinking.
Or maybe it's territorial/ protective. Our cats sometimes like to "cover" their water dish, I think it might just be instinct to "hide" resources so others can't find and steal them.
Ours don't put things in theirs, but they do also like to play with the dish itself. Weirdos. Haha. I love kitties :)
My cat does drop her toys into her water dish which is not good because we have a filter fountain water dish for our kitties and if it is small, it clogs it up! I have never had her put any of our things in the water dish. It is usually her pipe cleaner, mice, or one of my elastic bands she found.
She has an addiction to pipe cleaners and I always find them in her bowl (she sometimes put them in her food dish) and on occasion, she will bring it to me to play fetch and its all wet. (yes, my kitten plays fetch with me with her pipe cleaner. Better than some dogs ;))
I have no idea why she does it. They are crazy?? Because my little girl is INSANE some days :D But I love her to pieces.
Oh how cute! That is just adorable :)
My cat doesn't put things in her water dish, but she used to drink her water ONLY off of her paw. She would DIP her paw into the dish, lick it off, dip, lick it off, dip... you get it lol.
I say she "used" to because I haven't seen her do it since we moved in with now-hubby. He has a cat too, so maybe she doesn't want to look like a weirdo to the "other" cat lol.
One of my cats likes to drop her toys in the toilet and then fish them out. There's nothing like stepping on a wet, smooshy mouse-shaped object in the morning to really wake you up right away!

One of two cats, Josie, like to put things in the water dish. We first noticed it when we moved into our new apartment last July. At first we would find paper towel pieces and little toy mice in the water, but lately she has taken to socks or FI's white undershirt tank thingys. I had never seen her doing this before, so I could only guess that it was one of the cats but I got to witness it a couple nights ago. I got up because I heard a weird noise in the office so I went and I saw her standing over the water dish with one of those under shirts in the water. I went over and took it away and hung it on the side of the tub, she followed me, pulled it off of the side of the tub, and carried it in her mouth, dragging it back to the water dish. I have to admit it was so funny and cute that I just let it go, but it made me wonder does anyone else's cat do that? Anyone know why?
