Although I don't have children myself, I do know a lot of people who have children who feature one parent or another more prominently. I think there are several things to keep in mind:
1) Its only an ultrasound. The child will look much different after he/she is born, and even more different when he/she is ten or twenty.
2) Normally, kids aren't clones of one parent or another. Even if your child strongly favours your husband, you might discover some of your features in there.
3) Even if your child doesn't look like you, he/she might have your personality or your mannerisms.
Our daughter is a mix of both of us. She has his famous family cheeks and my eyes (at least she will if they stay blue like they seem to be). She also has my facial expressions. She has dubbed "my name" looks.
However, with an ultrasound, you're not going to be able to tell everything. There's a good chance that your son has some of your features too. Who's to say that he won't have your eyes or smile or hair color?
My best friend gave birth to a little mini me but now, a year later, she's already starting to look more like a combination of both parents. So you never know!
Being adopted, this is one thing I'm really looking forward to when the baby is born. If he/she looks nothing like me I'll be a sad little camper...
I wouldn't worry too much! Most of the 3D ultrasounds I've seen (or heard from parents who had them) look nothing like the actual baby! Also it's important to keep in mind that babies change their looks a lot within the first months/years so while you feel your baby favors your husband more now, he may end up favoring your looks in the end.
DH and I joke that our son is going to have blonde hair and blue eyes and people are going to wonder who's kid he is...we both have very dark brown eyes and brown/black hair, but both our fathers are blonde/blue so DH and I could be carriers. I cannot wait to meet our little man and to finally see who/what he is going to look like! DH is half Japanese (but feels he doesn't look it) so we are interested in seeing if he will have any Asain features. I'll let you know in April :)
I think it's pretty common in mixed race babies for the baby to look much more of one race than the other. Dark hair and eyes are genetically dominant, so I know it's not likely that our babies will share FI's coloring at all (I have very dark brown hair and eyes, FI has dark blond hair and blue-green eyes).
It makes me a little sad, but mostly I have this ridiculous fear that one day he'll be out with our daughter and someone will mistake him for a pedophile because she will look nothing like him!
Well I don't have kids yet but I definitely resemble my dad and my brother and sister definitely resemble my mom. A friend of my grandparents even commented on a family Christmas picture once that I looked like I was my dad's kid from another marriage but that my siblings were obviously my mom's (note: my dad never had another marriage).
But even though my features and coloring look so much like my dad, I am built exactly like my mom. And I have her toes, her laugh, and her demeanor. And my brother is built like my dad and my sister is built like my dad's sisters.
I think most all kids will share more features with one parent or the other but aspects of both parents are always going to be there.
My sister's first born looked JUST like her when he was born the following couple of months. But, as he's gotten older he's started to look a lot more like his dad. Babies change so much, so you never know what will happen!
I can't wait to see who our son looks, like, but I'm sure hoping he at least has my green eyes! :)
babies change so much, and its only an ultrasound. its not something i would worry about. a friend of mine has a two year old that looks exactly like the pictures of her at that age. I swear I wouldnt know the difference if you had a picture of two year old mommy next to a picture of her daughter. but when she was born she looked EXACTLY like her dad. Everyone who saw the baby would say "oh my, she looks just like (her hubbys name)!"
My son is the spitting image of my husband. The ONLY thing he has of mine is my blue eyes. Eye shape is totally my husband. If I didn't birth this child then I would be doing a maternity test so fast! LOL
I look just like my mom, my next sister looks just like my dad. Well that was when we were little, now that we're older we still look more like that parent but the mix of the two is more apparent than when we were little.
Our 3d looked like Mr. DG... Our daughter still doesn't look at all like me... and she only kinda resembles Mr. DG. I call her my little alien sometimes :)
My niece looked just like me and my brother when she was born but now at 4 years she is spitting image of her mother!
I read a study once that biologically babies tend (but not always) to look more like their fathers when they are born. This is because mothers naturally bond with their babies but sometimes nature gives fathers a little push - we all bond more easily with something that looks like us! That way a father can look at his baby, see himself, know that it's his (even though he logically knows that) and all kinds of provider stuff kicks in...
My son looks more like his dad but he has a few features like me. He actually looks EXACTLY like my FI's mom when she was a baby so you know he got most of his looks from that side.
Here is my FMIL
And here is my son

Sorry the pictures are so big.
My son honestly doesn't even look related to me, at all. I have had waitresses in restuarants tell my son that he has a very nice aunty to take him out for lunch. I have brown eyes and extremely dark hair. My son has platinum blonde hair and bluish-grey eyes. My FMIL has grey eyes, and dimples just like my son. He looks more like her kid, than he looks like mine. My SO has dirty blonde hair and hazel-ish eyes.
With my niece, every time I see her I swear she looks like her mom, and then the next tme just like her dad. They just change so much.
I'm blonde, blue eyed and short and DH is black haired, brown eyed (with no blue eyed people in his entire family, so we're fairly sure he's "BB"). So, chances are our kids will get his colouring, so I'll just have to hope they get SOME sort of feature that looks like me.
I have the exact opposite problem.. My daughter is a clone.
Babies change ALOT from the way they look the first few days after a birth and then months later.. so the 3D ultrasound may not really be a true representation of who the baby will resemble by the time they are 6months old.
Me as a kid.. yea I know, what was I doing with my finger, right?

Brookie bear... today!

My cousin has a daughter that does not resemble him or his wife at all! at least, not right now...
My son it 2 now and he still looks like my husband. There is definitely no sign of me on his cute little face - However, he has my personality through and through lol. I figure I get something out of the deal because he acts so much like me. I do wish he had a little something in his looks but since he is only 2 I figure there may still be time lol.
my SIL had 3 kids... one looks like her husband, one looks like her and one looks like a mix of both of them.. So crazy but its true
A friend of mine has 2 kids- one daughter looks identical to her side of the family (blonde hair, blue eyes, freckles, etc) and the other daughter looks identical to her husband's side of the family (brown eyes, dark brown hair, etc). There is no mixing whatsoever- neither one looks like a combination of the parents. So maybe the second one will look like you! (I also think that the baby will look a little different than the 3d, so you might be surprised!)
My aunt has two children that look nothing like her. She is blonde and tall and they both are shorter with black hair and dark skin (like their father). People think she adopted them and assume she is not their mother!
The pic of my older kids didn't upload properly, but my younger daughter looks just like her daddy. None of them got any genetic material from me, I'm afraid, lol.
Ok, let me try this again. The first pic is of my son and older daughter. The 2nd pic is me and my younger daughter, and she's also in the last pic as well. See? Nothing like me, lol!!!!
im the oldest of four kids and when i was born i looked just like my mother (still do, total clone!) and everyone kept commenting to my parents, "she looks just like her mother!" apparently my dad was pretty upset about this and asked why no one thought i looked like him (my mother told him, "well...because she just doesnt look like you!")
in the end though, they had 3 more kids, all of whom look just like my dad!!!!
My husband's youngest son looked nothing like EITHER parent when he was born. Blue eyes, light hair. Both his parents have dark hair and brown eyes. They actually did a paternity test when they got divorced just to make sure it was his!! The older he gets, the more he looks like his dad. Face shape is very much like his dad. His mom re-married and their first kid looks exactly like my husband's younget (again nothing like his mother).
It happens, but rest assured that as kids grow, their looks completely change. Plus, a 3D ultrasound isnt a real great shot of your baby....its still an ultrasound and things are always distorted on those things!
LOL this is a common problem in my family. My younger brother looks exactly like my dad, so much so that she started telling people he was the first cloned baby! That same brother has a daughter who looked like him, so much that the dr. that delivered her told my sister-in-law that if he hadn't personally delivered the little girl, he wouldn't have thought she was the mom. That little girl is now going to be three, and thank god she is turning into a mix of them.
My niece has two kids from two different relationships, and neither one of those kids looks like her at all, it's shame as they are both girls and shes gorgeous.
There has been some articles written saying that the first baby usually looks like the father as a way to get him engaged and interested. I have no idea if that's true or not.
Your baby could have your hands, your hair color or texture.. or even be interested in some of the things your good at.
Does anyone elses family have the odd child??
In my family we all have really dark hair. Aunts, uncles, everyone. But in every family there is one really light blonde haired, blue eyed kid. My sister is the one in our family and we call her the milk mans baby. lol
I feel ya! Although people say that my daughter looks a lot like me now, she didn't start to develop my features until around 2 (she just turned 2 in September). At birth, she didn't really look like either of us. After a few months, she darkened up and looked JUST LIKE my husband! But now, she's looking more like me. It's funny how children go back and forth with who they resemble...and then they hit a stage where they just look like themself and no one else. :) Whoever your baby looks most like, I'm positive he'll be absolutely beautiful regardless!
Addie looks just like me, but she's built just like her dad, tall and thick. You just never know which features baby will end up with. :)
@ladyox: i've always heard the same thing. biologically kids should look more like their dads so their dads identify them as "theirs." Also, keep in mind that kids change! Its weird but when I was little everyone said I looked like my dad, but as I got older I look a LOT like my mom.
My son looks just like my husband. He's four months old and strangers who pass us in the store even comment on it. He looks nothing like me, but I like the way the hubs looks so I don't mind. :)
Everyone has constantly said how much they see my partner in our son, but I think a large part of it has to do with the fact that people will perceive what they want to perceive (besides that babies change SO much in such a short span of years it is a little soon to say with just an ultrasound).
FWIW I can see a lot of myself in my son, whether others can see it or not.

My husband I and are expecting and we just had one of those 3D ultrasounds done. When we saw the baby's face, he is like a clone of my husband - and looks nothing like me at all! I was hoping our baby would look like a mix of both of us. My husband is very handsome and I'm happy that our son will inherit his good looks, but I can't help but feel left out :( Does anyone else have a baby who looks nothing like them?
