Check out www.petfinder.com They will have lots of pups in your area who need to be adopted.

As an FYI - most agencies will not adopt you a pet if it is intended to be given as a gift (aka, you won't be the one responsible for it).

Please check out your local shelters and rescues-!

Also make sure nephew is ready for the responsibility of a puppy, they are a TON of work to be raised well and it would be a shame to have to end up giving it away or putting it in a shelter due to lack of time or resources.

Sorry for talking too much, but I volunteer with a rescue, and young kids who get pets don't often end well!

@allieluvs21: Please do not buy a puppy from anyone online or a pet store. These puppies almost always come from puppy mills or back yard breeders and can be riddled with health and behavioral problems. Please look at local shelters and petfinder.com.

Also, please do not "surprise" your nephew and his parents with a puppy as a gift.

Make sure that his parents are on board with your gift and pick out the puppy with you.

Please do your breed research before just randomly picking a puppy. Young children can be rough on animals so avoid small/toy breeds as they can be easily injured by a rambunctious child.

@allieluvs21: No problem! I'm happy to help point you in the right direction as far as websites to look at for research etc if you need it. As long as the parent's are on board then it'll probably be ok, but they may need to go with you to adopt. You can pay the adoption fee but the adoption group will want to know who will actually be caring for the animal.
