I bought a dress last October because I LOVED it with the plan to wear it on a cruise we took in February (our engagement cruise actually!) Anyway, I lost about 15 pounds between the time I bought the dress and then time we left on the cruise and it didn’t fit properly, so I bought a new dress. Now, this dress is hanging in my closet with the tags still on. It cost about $100 and it seems a shame to just be hanging in my closet. I was considering trying to sell it at a consignment shop, but I’m pretty clueless about how that would work. Can anyone help?

Consignment shops have their own policies. Some require a minimum number of garments before you open an account- some don’t. If you find a place that will take one dress, they set the price, they take a commission. Most have an automatic policy of reducing the price by a certain percentage each month till it’s sold. If it doesn’t sell, some give you an option to pick it up or authorize them to give it to charity.
Google Consignment Shops near where you live and read their policies.

Honestly you would do better on eBay, a shop will geve you about 40 percent of what they make and that’s if it sells right away. You probably can do at least that well on eBay but prob a lot more just be sure to set a reserve price.
