First off, Happy New Year’s ladies!
So…I must be a huge oblivious dummy but does everyone wear their e ring closest to their fingertips and their wedding band closest to their palm (so you put on wedding band first and then e-ring)??? I think b/c my original e ring was so unique (antique square and I originally had two bands soldered on each side) that I have no clue with this stuff! I just happened to notice that almost all the ring pics I see have rings in this order. I got my 10 year anniversary ring, the one I always wanted…simple solitaire, this past September but have been wearing it the other way. I even have it sized to fit that part of my finger. Now I’m realizing that I think I’ve been wearing my rings wrong but my wedding band is bigger than my e-ring and I don’t want to part with my e-ring to have it resized bigger. So I guess I’m asking, is there really a right or a wrong way to wear your e ring and wedding band?

My mom always told me that your wedding band goes first because during the ceremony you take off your e-ring (or wear it on your other hand) and once your wedding band goes on, you shouldn’t be taking it off, so your e-ring goes on top. I guess that is the older view of it! I personally don’t care too much, and think it is about the look you prefer.

I actually don’t think that there is a right or wrong way -there are explanations for why you would wear it either way, and I know people who wear it each way, so I think it is just preference!

I wore it that way because I took my ering off during the ceremony and then put it back on above the wedding band. So it’s just always been that way.

Around here, all the women I know wear their rings that way, with the wedding band closest to them, so that is how I plan to wear mine. However, I don’t think it matters which way you wear them really.

A jeweler told me when trying bands on that the wedding band always is first because it should be the closet to your heart. I have no clue if that’s why haha just what she said

I don’t think there is a right or a wrong way to wear the rings, it is more about tradition and personal preferences. Where i live most people traditionally wear their wedding band on the right hand and those who have an e-ring wear it on the left ( e-rings are not that popular here). Darling Husband and i wear our wedding bands on the left hand because we are both righties and think it makes more sense then, moreover both our left hands look prettier than the right hands. I wear my wedding band closer to my palm because it looks better this way and because it prevents the e-ring from slipping off my finger ( The e-ring is resized but still too big).
If anyone considers this as “wrong” it is their problem, not mine 😉

I think it’s because the wedding band is “supposed” to be the one that is physically closest to your heart. It’s one bit of tradition that I actually do observe.

I wear my wedding band first, yes. But as of now I have to wear my engagement ring first because its to big. So until I get it sized the wedding band holds the e-ring in place.
Once I get the e-ring sized they will be switched the other way.

Thanks so much ladies. I really never knew this as a real tradition since my rings were soldered before I was married and my e ring was so different. Thanks again!
