@cherrycoke: THAT IS SERIOUSLY ONE OF MY BIGGEST PET PEEVES! Or when people are walking really slow and walking like 5 people side by side so you can't get around them!
@cherrycoke: Hahahaha. In Disney World, I kept loudly pointing out to my daughter that you are always supposed to stay to the right especially on stairs!
@cherrycoke: i feel the SAME way! LOL it urks my turtle when people walk on the wrong side
I hate that, AND when people walk really slow and/or block aisles and whatnot. I give them the bitchface and go around, haha.
Passing left shoulder to left shoulder has been burned into my brain from years of horseback riding in crowded rings.
I get so confused and have actually run into people because they've tried to pass on the right side.
and then they act all annoyed at you b/c you almost run into them but have to move at the last moment! ha
i also HATE when grocery shopping how people stand in the middle of the aisle, as if no one else is around. i tend to SIGH really LOUDLY to get my point of annoyance across, but even that sometimes doesn't work, lol
@MandaMack: I HATE THAT. I no longer move over when i see there are four people across. I have slammed into someone recently and said ... oopsie see what happens when we don't share the sidewalk.
It made me feel a little better.
People around my moms house are terrible about this. It got to the point where I would just stand there, stare at them, and wait for them to move.
OMGGGGGGG I just walked across the building at work and totally did the "you are on the wrong side of the hallway!!" bob back and forth dance with someone and was so annoyed! Seeing this just made my day! :-)
@cherrycoke: I hate this. That is usually the point when I start talking to myself.
I don't have many pet peeves, but people who meander and take up the whole sidewalk make my blood boil. I live in a really busy part of Boston that gets visited by tourists a lot, and I often get trapped behind a group of people walking six wide at a snail's pace, just gazing around. Some days it is is all I can do not to yell "MOVE! Get out of the way! How do you not see all these other people trying to use the sidewalk!!!"
I've learned to just keep walking on the right-meaning correct- side.
If anyone gives me "the look", I say, "I'm sorry, I didn't realize this was a one-way sidewalk"
or "I'm sorry, I thought I was walking on the right". They get the message, even if only temporarily.
I know... it just boggles my mind that people are so completely unaware of what's around them. I don't even want to know what they're like when they are behind the wheel driving!
haha I always get annoyed over this. I CAN'T stand it when I'm on an escalator an people are standing on the left side! My mother ALWAYS taught me to stay on the right so if someone is in a rush they can pass on your left side.
Also, I live in NYC and I CANNOT stand it when people walk down the street in groups of like 5 (side by side). They block the side walk and walk slow and make me late to work lol (work by Macy's Herald Square, so there are TONS of tourists in that area).
I am getting annoyed just thinking about it.
I Hate hate hate it when people stand in the middle of the aisle while talking, seriously people move to the side.
I also hate it when people put their buggy to the left side of the aisle and then stand right in front of it on the right side of the aisle, blocking the entire thing.
@cyndistar3: "Urks my turtle" is totally the greatest phrase ever!
Oh my, I have that major peeve on public transit around here too. Commuters can get pretty grumpy when people stand on the left side of the escalator and block your way. Usually I just say "excuse me" politely and cheerfully and it works well, but one time I did that, a woman standing behind me (she wasn't even with the people I had asked to move!) started hollering, "OHHH, you're so IMPORTANT! You have so many places to go! Rude woman!!" That was annoying. I would have informed her that I had a bus to catch and that missing it adds 30 min to my commute...but I had to run to catch that bus ;)
I always stay to the right, too! What irks me more than that is people in grocery stores with their cart right smack in the center of the aisle and they don't move! I always keep my cart to one side. :)
@MsJeep23: lol - sorry, that kind of made me laugh just thinking about that lady yelling that ;)
@MsJeep23: Been there- my best response, learned over time, is just to wait until these people have finished- stay totally calm, then say "Are you done?" and go on with my day.
@cherrycoke: Haha yea. It was all echo-ey in the tunnel too, which added to the moment....
I just had another person do this on the way back from the gym - it has to be b/c I brought it up on the WB boards, lol!
Hilarious! this drives me nuts, thought it was just me. I hate it especially on stairwells. There's a spiral one at my office, and yesterday I did the whole "both people try to switch sides at once" thing with another lady. Just stay to the right, GOSH
This makes me think of Is It Just Me?: Or is it nuts out there? by Whoopi Goldberg. I'm tempted to buy the book because it talks about all sorts of pet peeves.
i love this thread! i hateeee when people are on the wrong side walking straight toward you, starting RIGHT at you, and would rather walk into you than move. I usually follow the collision with "oh, I must be invisible!"
This is slightly off topic, but does anyone else hate when you're shopping in a fairly quiet store and someone is on their cell phone talking as loud as they possible can (basically yelling) to the person on the other end? That is another one of my pet peeves.
@LetsGoPens: We have a copy of that book at my house:) Right up there with spicket (pronounced "spigget"), gumband, and worsh...right?
Walking, no. Driving yes. I've seen multiple times (and been shocked each time) when I'm in a parking lot of any kind, people will actually drive on the sidewalk to go around the passenger side of my car to pass me. I have to wonder if these folks got their licenses on a "one day only" sale or something.
Oh my gosh yes. I also don't understand when you see two people who manage to take up a WHOLE sidewalk and you can't get through/around/past them. I usually really loudly say "Excuse me, can I please get by???". In the grocery store if I'm really PO'd and there's a line up of people who can't get around one lady with her cart staring at canned carrots or something, I'll park my cart (doing the squeaky side drag to draw attention), give the person a look, march up, move their cart, give another look, and go get my cart and proceed on. I also hate when you bump into that SAME person like 4 times and have to do it in EVERY aisle. Duh.
lol. Well in other countries you drive on the other side! And children don;t know the rules. Also, alot of people don;t drive so they don;t know!
Grocery stores are terrible about people blocking aisles. When you politely try to get by, there are the rare few courteous people but the majority either give you blank or dirty stares and go back to their conversations blocking the aisle. But when you are able to get past someone, it doesn;t matter what side they are on since driving rules don't apply.
AGREE! Huge pet peeve! And people that stop at the top or bottom of stairwells to talk or get something from their bag. And big groups taking up entire sidewalks. MOVE OVER DUDES!
Omg what about people who stop with their carts across the top of grocery aisles so no one can get in or out of the aisle, or past the top of the aisle either. That's awful! Read the damn sign somewhere else!!!
My family is awful for stopping in the most inconvenient places possible. Like they'll be leaving a sporting event and stop in the middle of the gate from the seats out to the concourse. I drag them over to the side saying they're all in the way and they give me this look like "What the hell are you doing/talking about?!". Seriously?!
@bakerella: My mom always does that, just stops in place to talk. 1. we can talk and walk to the car at the same time or 2. wait till we are in the car because it cannot be that important!
Haha you people will hate me, sometimes I stop dead in my tracks and turn around! I try not to but sometimes it's just how my brain works.

people walk towards you and they're on the right side (their left)? don't people know to follow the rules like if you're driving, stay to the right!
haha, just wanted to vent... i'm ready to go home! :)
