After looking at homes and having nothing work out, I am FINALLY starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel. I found a house I like BUT it is 389 sq ft smaller than our previous home. Do you think 389 makes a big difference? For reference it is 1826 sq ft versus 2215. WHat does 389 sq ft even look like visually? I have no spatial sense to speak of so i really cannot figure this out on my own! Advice?

This is a 390 sq ft apartment if that helps?
It’s a small space, but big enough to fit all this stuff in it.
here’s more http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/tiny-homes-on-at-41195
enter the slideshows. sometimes they show you a pic of the whole room because it’s like a small studio space.

We’ve been looking at townhomes in the 1700-2300 square foot range and felt like over 2000 sq feet made a big difference. Like having a living room and a family room. Or not being able to fit bedroom furniture in bedrooms. But I think it really depends on the layout and dimensions of your rooms.

It really depends on the layout I think. Do you like it?

@SaucyMcgee: Thanks! It is still hard to tell even after this, though I am thinking it might actually be a big difference. 🙁

Yes you will see the difference. The question is do you need more than 2,000 sq ft?

@mammamia: Mathematically 389 Square Feet is equal to aprox either of the following…
38-3/4 Feet x 10 Feet – OR – aprox 19-1/2 Feet x 20 Feet
So in total a space that is equivalent to say one LARGE ROOM… like a Family Room or Basement Rec Room, or 2 smaller rooms (say 2 bedrooms)
If you truly want to visualize the space here is a way that might make it easy for you. Most Double Garages are in the 20 x 20 range… so that is essentially what the difference is in regards to a footprint.

@Nat_can: I Dont really know. I have always rented or lived in military base housing so I don’t know what I need long term. When I have lived in a small house I have made do because I knew it was short term.

I think it definitely depends on the layout, my parents house is 2000 sq ft but seems waaaay bigger than a lot of houses we’ve looked at that are larger. every house is different..

@This Time Round: Thats a good visual! OK, well an entire garage spread throughout the house IS a big difference. Now I just need to figure out if I need that space.
