I thought her dress was absolutely stunning - and it's making me wish I had sleeves on my own (I'm getting married in two weeks!)
I wanted sleeves when I first started looking, but I fell in love with a strapless lace dress. I still love my dress, but I think Kate looked stunning and classic and I really wish I had sleeves now.
Anyone else having a little dress envy/regret thanks to her gown?
not at all. I have always loved sleeves, but i would NEVER do that in july. Maybe you could look into getting a long sleeved lace jacket?
No, because she paid 42k for her dress and that is more than i make in a year, i love my dress, so i have no regrets! tho her dress was BEAUTIFUL!!!!
No, because I have been thinking of something as simple and classic as that. It fits my theme. I am not sure about the sleeves though. I'd have to see what it looks like on me first. But my FMIL ran into the bedroom and told me she loves her dress and envisioned a Grace Kelly look for me as well.
Her dress was very beautiful, classy, timeless and reminded me a bit of Grace Kelly. That is SO not my style!
No but it does make me feel like a psychic, I posted a picture of what I was looking for 4 months ago http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/a-very-early-dress-dilemma and it looks almost EXACTLY like what she ended up wearing haha.
I thought her dress was gorgeous and perfect - for her. I'm really happy with my dress choice and can't wait to wear it!
It looked lovely on her, but personally I'd never wear something that big or with that much of a train. Or sleeves. My dress is a strapless mermaid, and that was pretty much the only style I ever pictured for myself.
Well, I already wore mine.... and it was pretty similar to hers... so.... no.
@KLP2010: I think I might be on Weddingbee too much. As soon as I saw Kate's dress I thought that it looked just like yours!
@KLP2010 Care to post a picture? If not, I'll go through threads. :)
No, I love mine even more now. Plus as hers is classic and timeless, whereas ours are more trendy, ours are in a way not overshadowed.
@Birdie Love: Hahaha, same here! I thought Kate's dress was very pretty and great for her (I didn't watch the royal wedding, but couldn't escape the pictures online). But my style is definitely sleeker, sexier, and not at all princess-like!
Not at all- I got a ton of phone calls and emails this morning with people saying how much hers looked like mine. I still love it!
I loved her dress. Understated elegance. Classic and timeless, but modern at the same time! It really let her beauty shine through instead of having the emphasis on some over the top outfit. I even loved her small boquet!
It didn't make me rethink my own dress choice though. Her dress would not work very well with my rustic sugaring off wedding, lol! I still love her choice though!
Here are some pictures for the people who've been asking:

From Style Me Pretty.
Oh my gosh. Not even a little bit.
@DiamondsandLace:I always wanted sleeves but couldn't justify the extra price so my opinion now is the same as it was before. I still love my dress and don't "regret" that I can't afford the custom sleves.
I loved her dress but don't know how i would like the sleeves on me, but i am getting married in November in new england so it might be chilly! and i am getting married in a Catholic Cathedral so it could totally work and i loved the Grace Kelly look...
Not at all. I never liked A-line or fuller skirt dresses. Pippa's dress however is more my style. I tend to favor tighter, sleeker fitted gowns.
Her options were completely different than ours in so many ways- budget, finding a dress to fit the venue, etc. There is no way she could've picked a strapless dress for such a religious and high-profile ceremony.
I wonder what she would've picked had she been married in a more private setting?
Her dress was absolutely gorgeous. It was appropriate for her wedding and her personality. That being said...I am still absolutely in love with my dress. I think my dress reflects me and my own personality along with the personality of the wedding!
But Kate looked radiant and they both look so in love!
Absolutely not, but I think it was perfect for her- she looked classic!
I agree with everyone - if it isn't your style (if you like a sleekier, trendier, more modern look) then yes, it's probably not making you rethink your choice. And it isn't like I could afford a dress on that scale anyway - the perks of becoming a princess, I suppose ;)
And I'm not rethinking mine, per se, I DO still love my dress. But I'm a bit wistful over those sleeves, and she just looked so stunning.
Is this anyone else's favorite royal wedding dress? I like it even better than Princess Grace's.
I have a dress that is slightly MORE modest (not intentionally, the dress was just so me). I don't like the sweetheart on hers, but I love the sleeves. I do wish mine had a fuller skirt, though. Mine is also understated, in a bizarre sort of way...

(That's not me, that's the model. I'm short, chesty, and just a little bit fat.)
I like my sleeves and her skirt (minus the train) more, and while I still prefer my bodice, I wish it was a little lower. So, while I vaguely prefer my dress, hers does highlight the one big regret about my dress - the not full, not particularly bridal skirt.
Not at all! Her dress looked gorgeous on her. Very classic. She looked like the perfect modern princess. I was actually kind of excited that she chose an ivory lace gown because that's what mine is too :)
Not at all... Its a classic but its nothing like what I'm looking for. I avoid lace as much as possible
heck no it didnt make me rethink my own,
instead it confirmed how friggin much I loved my dress.
I love that my dress looks absolutely nothing like Kate's. :)
I don't have my dress yet but I won't be using hers as a guideline by any means. I might like the deep V with lace straps (not sleeves!) but I guess we'll see.
I think she looked gorgeous, but you could put her in a trashbag and she'd still look good. Have to admit I wish she would've gone just a TAD edgier.
Nope, I am not even close to getting married and I don't have a dress picked out either! But for 1.) I am no thin mint so her dress would look funny on me. I have a very sprinter/athletic build. 2.) I live in Arizona sooo even if I wanted to wear the dress I would probably faint due to heat.
That being said I do really how the dress looks on her. She definitely has the body for it! She looked gorgeous!
It made me like mine more!
The neckline on mine was similar, although it didn't have sleeves:

The bride wore a lovely dress fit for a princess. However, I was surprised how traditional and conservative it looked, especially after hearing countless rumors how it would be somewhat edgy or "modern." It reminded me more of the late Princess Grace of Monaco's own wedding dress. More likely, Kate's dress design was chosen due the very traditional and conservative setting of Westminster Abbey, but a good part of it reflects her own personal style, which tends to be more classic rather than edgy. I notice that much of today's modern bridal gowns are strapless (which I was never a big fan of), so Kate's dress in a way is a refreshing yet classy alternative to that.
I loved Kate's dress so much, I can't even tell you. It would be a little warm for my own wedding, but it made me glad I chose a lace top on my own dress!!
I LOVED Kate's dress so much. It made me wish I had a dress like that. Mine has some similar features, but I've seen several dresses similar to hers, the JA that one bride here had restyled, JLP or JLK something, as well as the Watters Escalante come specifically mind.
However, I still love my dress, esp since my wedding is only about 6 weeks away.
Oh, boy, no. Her dress has five or ten times as much fabric as mine. It's gorgeous, but it's very traditional and I'm very not.
I love her dress too. It didn't make me regret mine... but I did tell my SIL this morning that I think it might bring about a change (finally!) in the dominance of the strapless dress as far as what is available for us "normal" women out there shopping. And so, I said that had we waited a year to marry, I might have had more luck finding something that was really ME.
Don't get me wrong, I loved my dress, but always felt this nagging bit of disappointment because I felt like my dress was the best I could find that I could afford and out of what's available without going custom. And not necessarily the best dress that suited me. I've always been a fan of lace and sleeves and never found THE dress that was all that I really wanted, but kind of felt like I had to make do based on current fashion and budget. Make sense to anyone else?
Basically i looked and looked for something lacey and with sleeves, more modest without being frumpy, and found very little, then what I did find I couldn't afford. So I finally just decided I could be happy with what I found (strapless, but all over lace, and with a lace bolero to make up for the strapless factor).
I too loved her dress! I thought she looked fabulous, and stunning, and classy, and royal-like. Although, it's totally not my style and not my kinda dress.
I LOVE my gown 100% but yes, her gown made me feel like mine was completely inferior. Haha. I was just wishing I had hers, because it's exactly what I wanted originally, but my big boo-tay would NOT look good in it! haha
