Hey ladies, I need some advice and help.
My ceremony and reception will be at a park in early June of 2012. The ceremony is at a cute wooden gazebo down a small hill from a wooden A-frame lodge where the reception will be held immediately after. My colors will be green and white with a general spring, floral, nature, woodsy, casual theme (river rocks, you get the idea). This goes for center pieces, decor on the gazebo, my hair comb, invites, save-the-dates, etc. My bridesmaids will be in slightly above the knee, matching dress/different spring colored wear-again dresses.
My gown has been ordered (as close as I can get to my dream gown) but I am wondering if it really will be appropriate for my outdoor spring wedding. Girls who have reviewed the dress have said that it is great for park weddings, being that it is taffeta and lightweight. I’m still apprehensive though.
It is a taffeta ivory, corset back, a-line ballgown with many pick-ups. I plan to wear a full ball gown slip underneath. I also like lightweight spring style gowns but this style flatters my hourglass figure better.
Any suggestions?? or thoughts about the matter? Did you have a park wedding? What was your gown?

@lkr736: I am having a wedding in an outdoor amphitheater and then the reception at a rustic yacht club on the water.
I am wearing a dropped waist, silk satin, A-line/ballgown with a draped skirt.
Maybe not the “perfect” combination of dress and venue, but it is MY dress and I love it.

Do you have pics of your dress? When I think ballgown with pickups, I am envisioning a very elaborate dress, which might not excatly go with your theme…but if it isn’t as elaborate, a certain type of ball gown can def fit in!
I was concerned, at first, about my dress fiting our outdoor wedding, but in reality, I think it fit in just perfecty.
Also, I have to give a shout out b/c my colors were green & white. Since our whole wedding was outdoors I wanted a very “natural” color palette, and white against the green grass and trees is so pretty. We also used incorporated a simple olive branch that tied in our “Country/Italian theme” as I called it 🙂

I’ve seen all types of dresses for outdoor weddings. I’ve seen ballgowns on the beach, too. This is the only time you will ever be able to wear a ballgown with pickups, so if you like the dress, go for it.

I was thinking the same, about my dress: when in the world am I going to wear pickups and a bustle again? I should maybe just go for it.
The pics below are of my dress on other women. I’d like try a hoop on with it and see what happens…or at least an a-line slip to get the sides to extend out a bit more. I also still need to see it bustled. (sweetheart neckline-which I’d like to deepen)

I think that dress will look beautiful in the venue you’re describing! I’m getting married in a very outdoorsy venue too, and my dress has lace and beading and is A-line – fancier than I was expecting. If you’re concerned about your dress looking too formal, maybe you can go a little looser with hair to balance it out. But it will work, don’t worry! Look at the girl in the picture… the dress is perfect in that naturey setting!

Thanks! I’ve been planning on at least 1/2 up 1/2 down hair anyway so I think you’re right. Also, a short veil and a green/white floral comb so hopefully if I remember to “keep it casual” I can pull it off, lol.
