Hey ladies! I added it up & it looks like I'll be on my honeymoon the week I'll be on my period, I'm on Yaz Birth Control & I was wondering if I really skipped the white pills if that would skip my period as well. I've never tried this before! Please let me know your experiences with this.
It works but it usually takes more than one month to make it work. I had to skip the white pills for about 4 months before my period was completely gone.
White meaning placebo? First off, I was not on Yaz. But if you are talking about the placebo, I never took them in the 10 years I was on the pill.
EDIT: As you can see I have no idea what I am talking about, lol
I do it, with doctor permission, and it's great! Just go straight from active pills to active pills, and you'll be fine. I don't do it all the time, but there's not medical reason for you to have a period when you're on the pill--they just stick those inactive pills in there so we feel "normal". If you're concerned, double check with your doctor, I did, but I say do it!
You could try it but you might have spotting/breakthrough bleeding. I'm bumping mine up a week, so I'm skipping the white pills NOW to r/s my period for the future.
It wouldn't hurt to try it, just don't be surprised if you still have some bleeding.
Yep, it works. I went to my OBGYN last month to ask the question (my period is scheduled to arrive on my wedding day--yikes!). He said that by skipping the white pills, you won't have a period again until you take the white pills the next time. He suggested trying it out now to see how my body reacts (apparently some women start spotting toward the end of the second pack).
I'm on Marvelon 21 packs (no white sugar pills). If I need to skip my period, I continue with a new package instead of stopping them for a week. It works every time.
I've heard it's not healthy to do it very often but I've done it a couple of times (mostly on vacations where I don't want it).
I don't really know what you mean by skipping the white pills; but if you take the first 3 rows and instead of taking the "fake" pills in the 4th row ( I assume what your calling white pills) go ahead and start a new pack. It works for me to skip a cycle and supposidly it's safe to do for 3 packs straight. But you should call and talk to your doctor first to be sure its safe for you.
@Roddy: I'm not sure what you mean by placebo, but at the end of Yaz Birth Control there are about 4 white pills!
When I was on the pill, skipping the placebo pills and immediately starting a new pack never worked for me. I always got breakthrough bleeding that lasted longer than my period ever did. Try it out before your wedding to be safe; otherwise you may get more side effects than you bargained for.
I am not on Yaz, but my doctor told me that it should work, although she recommended that I start doing it three to four months in advance. Good luck!
Okay so some of you say it work, which is GREAT but some of you say that I need to try it before the wedding. Unfortunately, my wedding is not this weekend but the next, so I don't have time to try it :( I may or may not skip them, depending on what I feel like doing...bc I don't want to screw anything up. Maybe I'll get lucky & not have my period until the end of our honeymoon :)
Don't do it without talking to your doctor first! Skipping placebos works for tricyclics, but not for others. Ask your doctor how to do it, and give yourself at least 3-4 months before your honeymoon - it takes awhile for your body to adjust.
ALWAYS works for me! I'm on just a regular bc pill, and I've done it several times with no problems at all. I would go for it, if I were you!
I had one day of very minimal spotting, but otherwise no adverse affects from skipping he placebos and going right into the next pack . Was wonderful for the honeymoon, but I won't do it again--it made me nervous that I was preggo when Aunt Flo doesn't come on a regular basis!
Since I was not on Yaz but other birth control pills, the Placebo pills are the inactive pills at the end of the pack (week 4). They "seem" to only be there to keep us consistent with taking the pills. BUT during the placebo week was when I got my period.
Since I was not on Yaz, I really cannot comment but my Gyno had me skip the week prior to the placebo in addition to the placebo and it worked like a charm. She didn't want me taking a new pack during the placebo week because I would probably spot during that time.
It will work, however you may experience breakthrough bleeding. I guess it's better than having your period on your honeymoon.
If you are on monophasic pills (ie the SAME amount of meds in every active pill) then you can just skip and start a new pack and you will be fine.
If you are on a tri-phasic pill (ie three different levels of hormones, one each week), then if you want to skip, you need to not take the inactive (usually white) pills and start a new pack on the THIRD week of hormones and work your way back up to the top. (It works well if you turn the pack upside own and label it that way). When you get to the top, start a new pack at the top and continue as usual. Otherwise you get breaktough bleeding when you go from the higher dose 3rd week to the lower dose in week one.
I have a very heavy / stubborn period and all it did was mess me up, I stopped attempting after a month or two or three, LOL (my period was VERY unahppy with me!)
I was on Yaz and did it all the time. It never gave me spotting, but it could affect everyone differently. Give it a try before the big day to see how you'll react.
Oh my gosh!! I just realized that your day is like in less than 2 weeks. Dude!! I'm super excited!! I can't wait to see pics!!
Thank you ALL ladies so much! I may give it a shot. Do you think it'd be better to skip the 4th week all together & go right to the new pack? Or JUST the white pills at the end?
& I KNOW @msmonicka!! I'm so excited!!! I will DEF. post pictures for all of you!
Def try it. It never REALLY worked for me, I would always at least spot during the period when I was supposed to get my, well, period; but I've had friends that used to do it in college when their bfs were coming to visit with problems. Of course, I used to take Seasonale too and still never managed to miss my period, so I think my body is just hardwired to have a regular period if I'm on any kind off pill (though when I go "nature" I tend to not have a period at all....like the last 9 wks:(...)
It works on some pill formulas, but I don't know about all. It does work for the formula I use. Check with your doctor (mine actually recommended it) and make sure it is ok.
I've done this a few times. I skip the white pills and start the new pack immediately the next day. It has worked great. I haven't had any bleeding/problems at all. I highly recommend at least trying it, even if you have a little spotting on your honeymoon it's better than a full on period IMO.
as long as your doc is ok with it, just try it! I did that with Yasmin, just the one time I watned to skip my period, and it worked perfectly! The worse case is that you get some bleeding instead of a full period (Again assuming your doc is on board!)
I would look for your specific brand of birth control online and see what people say. I know one version I took had less estrogen in the week leading up to the placebo, which made skipping the placebo kind of pointless - still got a period. So the people online said to start a new pack at week 3, instead of 4. Every pill is different, so I'd check around!
I was just asking about a similar issue on another thread! I have skipped the "off week" for my Nuvaring before and ended up having breakthrough bleeding... so basically I bled for 2 weeks instead of one. I wouldn't recommend doing it for the first time around your honeymoon because you don't know how your body would react and you wouldn't want it to backfire. But call your doctor! They might have some advice for you.
@Lees - I would really ask your doctor about it, just to be sure. Everyone here has posted different reactions. Generally starting a new pack and just skipping the "sugar pills" does work. I have done this before with no problems, and on the first try. But I spoke to my doctor first, just to make sure!
I just posted on this a few weeks ago. My period is due during my honeymoon also so I'm going to take continuous pills...problem is, I just did this last November and spotted for about three weeks straight! But the spotting mostly was very light so I'm still willing to deal with this, rather than a full-blown period during my fun in the sun. Also, I think somebody above mentioned the 2nd month you are more likely to get spotting and I think that was true with me. This means, by taking the pills during your honeymoon, you probably will be ok. It's the next few weeks or next month you may more likely have issues. Good luck with your decision!
@Lees: If you skip the white pills, which I am assuming are the 4th week of pills for you, you have to immediately start a new pack unless you want to get your period. Your white pills are placebos---they don't do anything. If you don't take them during the 4th week, you will get your period.
Be careful though because the next pack will be empty one week earlier than anticipated, and if you do this again a second time you will be out of pills two weeks earlier than anticipated. If your pills are covered by insurance, you may not be able to get a refill on time if you get too ahead of yourself.
Placebo = white pills. I just had this talk with my Gyno last week and she told me to skip the placebo pills at the end of the pack to miss my period. She told me to try it with these first two packs that she gave me to see how it works.
BE careful with YAZ..have you seen all of the commercials about them making peeople sick?
It may work out ok, or you may experience some spotting. I realized six months ago that I was going to get my period during the wedding week, so I stacked two packs of pills then. I had a lot of spotting but it was worth it to me to not have to worry about my period during the wedding/honeymoon. I am on Yasmin.
As others have advised, call your doctor! Different pills have different ways of stacking them to most effectively prevent your period.
@ Lees - first off Congrats!! I'm so excited for you. Can't wait for pics.
I think your best bet is to just call your gyno's office & ask, doubt you need to make an appt & go in. I've been on Yaz for 3yrs with no problems but I do remember my Dr. telling me not to skip the white pills for some reason - they're not placebos but I think they taper off the hormone so you can get your period. A quick call to yoour Dr should get the answer - unless there's any ob/gyn's on here??? Good luck!!
How long have you been on the pill? It should work! I used to do it all the time, i even would skip so i would have my period 4x a year.. My doctor said that was perfectly okay. &It worked for me pretty quickly.. and never had spotting. Of course everyone is different, but go for it! The worst that will happen is you will have a bit of spotting on your honeymoon.. thats not too bad compared to full on period.
The earlier you can do it the better. For some people it works well, for some not as much. For me it works sometimes and not others.
It's definitely worth a shot. It'll probably work but be prepared just in case it doesn't.
