I LOVE IT! The sash and gold heels with glam it up w/o looking too casual. I think its great you are getting something they can wear again. Im doing the same concept. Have you had a chance to see the dress in real person? I like it and It will look beautiful with your dress!
Sorry, a wee bit confused-- you say your dress is the same as Lovebug's, but the link you posted is to Ladybug? Either way I think the bm dress is sweet... :-)
SOO pretty! I love it. It could pass as semi-formal or Casual, so I think it would be fine. I also love the modern look!
so strange! I think I fixed the link problem, hopefully it now links to Lovebug's dress. :) I have seen the dress in person and three of my BMs have tried it on and it looks great. it has POCKETS too! :) I am just scared they will look waaay too casual next to me cuz their dress is made from cotton... thanks for the kind comments!
I like the BM dress a lot! but I have to say I think the girls dresses will look a little on the casual side next to your gown.
Thanks for fixing the link! I'm glad you meant Lovebug's dress... that's one nice little confection! I think the bm dress you like is fine- frankly the wedding gown is quite elaborate, and it will be difficult to find something at the same level of formality. Cocktail length dresses are appropriate for events up to black tie, so once paired with great accessories, hair and makeup your bms will totally look the part. If you're still having doubts I recommend looking at LB's wedding photos, especially the reception pics. There's several girls (guests) wearing simple cocktail dresses in the same shot as LB and everyone looks great.
I'm going to agree with Lattelove on this one - your dress is very formal so the Jcrew dress just looks a little too casual, IMO. If your wedding is at night I would definitely consider a longer/more formal dress for your girls.
Also keep in mind: how do your guests dress? Are they formal people? Will some of the ladies come in long gowns?
(the dresses from Mrs Daffodil's cousin's wedding would look fabulous with your dress!)
I think the BM dress looks a little to casual- the cut reminds me of business attire.
I think long and flowing would be a better compliment to your dress.
I agree, the cut AND the cotton is very casual no matter how you "glam" it up. Cotton is cotton you can't do much about that, adding to it a lot could become more work and look like your trying to hard to make it match. Your dress is Ultra formal and beautiful by the way, I just think your maids might look like they are from a different wedding, ya know? Good luck!
I love that bridesmaid's dress! I think it's very pretty, and would be perfect for a garden party, but I agree that next to your gown, your girls are going to look a little under-dressed. Will your ceremony/reception be daytime or evening?
I think that dress would be perfect for a rehearsal dinner, though! depending on the price, could they be your gifts to your maids, rather than their bridesmaids' dresses for the wedding?
Good luck! I hope you'll let us know what you decide!
thank you for all of your kind and honest reponses! maybe I should have done a poll cuz I feel like the opinions are so split! :) I just didn't want to put my ladies in silk or anything heavy or "sticky" in the middle of june!
We are having an outdoors dinner reception in a museum courtyard with some trees and a shallow lake (not a garden). oh boo...
oh! and does it make a difference to know that the groomsmen will most likely be in tuxes?
I think that the groomsmen's attire definitely makes a difference. I hate to say it, but I think the girls will look very underdressed in your pictures next to you in such a formal gown and guys in tuxes. If the guys were in casual suits or something, you'd just look like a pretty, dressy bride. But since everyone else will match your formality, the girls really should too.
I'm sure the girls could get other uses out of such a cute day dress, though!
You know look at some alternative designers for your girls's dress, you don't have to go to a bridal shop and be limited to those dated heavy satin dresses. Actually Stylemepretty.com has an AMAZING thread going right now of different sources for bm dresses. Check that out for some inspiration!!
I love those dresses, but I agree they seem casual in comparison. If you're worried about something too heavy, why not consider something in a silk chiffon? it's soft and romantic and will look fantastic next to your amazing dress.
I have the cotton dress you picked in two different colors (white and tea rose) and agree that it is a casual dress, no matter what type of shoes you wear. The fabric is a very light, puckered cotton -- like a light weight seersucker.
Have you thought of maybe doing a similar J Crew dress in a more dressy fabric? The "Robin" dress for example, is beautiful, lightweight, and easily dresses up or down. It woudl look gorgeous with teh gold shoes you mentioned for your bridesmaids adn then they can wear it again with flat sandals and a cardigan to dress it down. It has a romantic style that would look great with your dress.
I think if you already bought the BM's dresses, and stick with the gold sash and shoes, it will glam them up a little bit! Just make sure none of their shoes, jelwery, hair, etc are too casual.

Hello hive! please help! I feel like I found a perfect and afforable BM dress, and all the BMs really like it, but one mentioned that she is surprised at my choice because it doesn't seem to "match" my more fancier gown. can I have your opinion? My gown is the same as Mrs. Lovebug's dress and our wedding is in June. We are having a church ceremony and outdoor reception. I wanted something light and casual for my BMs because I wanted them to be able to wear it again. I chose this dress from JCrew and got them for 35% off - which definitely helps since I have 6 bridesmaids! I ordered them in pink and will be adding a golden/ivory sash and pairing with gold heels. Can I get your opinons? Is it too casual?
I just saw Mrs. Daffodil's post about her cousin's wedding and am kinda' loving those long flowing BM dresses too! :)
Thanks for your help! xoxo.
