After a long and somewhat ardous dress shopping experience the past few months, I have decided on the Allure 8800 (ordering later this week). The one thing that is sort of worrying me is whether it suits my venues: a Catholic cathedral ceremony, and ballroom reception. I love the vintagey, elegant feel of the Allure 8800, but don’t want to look out of place. All of the real brides I’ve seen online who wore it had outdoor ceremonies, which is mostly why I’m concerned.
More details: The guys are wearing tuxes, the girls navy short dresses, flowers will be blush and ivory peonies, roses, etc. Blush/gold accents throughout. I plan on adding a belt/sash and a cathedral veil with edging. Overall just going for a classic, timeless feel.
The pictures of me in the dress are bad (attendant didn’t clip it so it was just hanging on me — tried it on a 2nd time elsewhere and had it clipped, but they didn’t allow photos). Here is someone with a similar build wearing it: http://somethingturquoise.com/2013/08/15/real-wedding-jack-sherri/
What do you think? Am I okay with this dress with my venues? I feel comfortable in the 8800 — all the more dramatic, poufy/full dresses made me feel like I was being swallowed up, or couldn’t move around easily.

ali_oop: my SIL wore this dress for a black tie New Year’s Eve wedding at the Ritz in NYC and it was definitely dressy enough. She wore beautiful drop earrings and no belt. I think the lace and the beading are so beautiful and special and I would stay clear of a belt, every time I have seen someone wear a belt with the dress it seems like too much. Hope this helps!

ali_oop: I don’t see a problem. In my opinion, wedding dresses are so different from everything else, that any dress suits pretty well any venue. That dress is beautiful anywhere.

I think it would be perfect!

I think it’ll look beautiful–the lace dresses it up enough.

Looks great! Love your venue 🙂

Thanks for the reassurance everyone! I’ve been so stressed out by the dress shopping process, every other decision has been easy! I think I just need to order this one already, and commit 🙂

ali_oop: It’s simple, yet beautiful. I think you’ll be fine. If you want to add some punch, wear a cathedral veil at the church, and a fancy hair clip at the reception…..or maybe some large, sparkly teardrop earrings.
